So the McTimoney Corley Phisyo was out today, she managed to find us even with my dodgey directions
I caught him in and took him over, she asked me loooooads of questions like how old he was, how much work he'd done recently and what he'd done in general, when his teeth were last done, where he came from, any schooling issues, any behavioural issues etc etc etc it was pretty in depth
She then asked for me to walk and then trot him up on the ground to assess his movement and then asked some more questions based on what she saw. For example she noticed that his forelegs were moving pretty close to brushing each other so she asked if he'd ever had any issues with brushing - which he hasn't thankfully
Then the treatment started, lots of massage including a spinal adjustment and some stretches. There were some really interesting techniques involved like when she had his tounge out the sides of his mouth to release pressure in his neck which made him chew before almost falling asleep ha ha! And towards the end when she was pulling his tail outwards ha ha!
There were a few movements that she did that uncovered a couple of sore spots which were delt with and a few movements such as when she was working on his hind quarters and down the back of his legs where it was a bit ticklish but all in all he was very good and just let her get on with it.
I think he enjoyed it really since he was almost asleep by the end
After the treatment she asked me to walk and trot him up from the ground again to see if there was any improvement. I was expecting him to be a bit sluggish since he was dozing away but actually he felt really responsive, with a free-er and bigger movement
It was £50 for an hour but she works until she has sorted everything she finds and doesn't charge extra so all in all she was there working on him for about 2 hours! Very good value for money! Then she stopped and let me chat her ears off for another half an hour which was nice of her ha ha!
The verdict is that I've to give him 2 days off and then he's to have a 20min hack in walk as long and low as possible, then the next day he is to have another 20 mins school or hack session adding in trot again. After that we are just to build him back up again to normal work and I've been given the all clear to get the saddle fitter out with a new saddle
I'm really pleased with how it went and I'll be booking her back out again in 3-4months for a follow up
Strange how you don't think (or at least I didn't) to get a physio out till there was a problem but she was saying that it's reccomended to get the physio out every 3-4 months depending on how much work they are doing.
