LOL - what would your horse do if this flew over his head?

I went for a quick hack on the moor this evening and saw the most bizarre "things" !

The seemed to suddenly appear, very low, so I can only assume that they had just taken off on the other side of the hill but they did have the good grace to veer away as soon as they saw me! :)

I did a quick Google Image search and I think they must of been these....

http://www.northwing.com/photos-mpulse.htm

There were two of them - looks like fun eh? :)

As it turns out my mare didn't appear to notice them at all even though they were just a few feet above her head! I think she is immune from all the RAF jets and helicopters that practice here - either that or she thought it was a mighty great pheasant! :D

Ermm .. My horse is usually pretty good out etc ..

But if this came over her head, I think she would jump out of her skin haha!

:D xx

Lucy wouldn't care a chonnock (sp?) helicopter nearly landed on us once and she just looked up as if to say "Look mum theres a chopper" Then she looked down "Look mum theres some grass" she started grazing while i pood my pants. LOL

Herbie i'm not shore yet. But being a forest bred he prob won't care.

I took my boy to go for a hack with a friend who lives right next to the airport a few weeks ago. I was worried how he'd react to the planes taking off and landing Buthelezi was absolutely fine. He did have a bit of a spook when a glider suddenly appeared at about his eye level about 20m away. I think it was because it made no noise so he couldn't work out how it got there!

Fany would check it wasn't edible and then carry on :D:D:D
Captain would think the world was coming to an end and head off for the hils, rearing and spinning as he went, still gotta love him!

I think my horse would be ok. We've had a close encounter with the Red Arrows (yet it was a log on the bridle path that made her freak out!), Chinooks, hot air balloons plus kite boarders and wind surfers when down the beach. We do have those motorised thingies going over us as we are near (as the crow flies) to an airfield but never had one pop up from behind a hedge! I have to say I cannot fault her with anything mechanical - she is an absolute star on the road (ever been in a 3 Artic sandwitch? One in front and two behind and she didn't bat an eyelid!).

Yet rainbow oil marks, tractor tyre marks, carrier bags, people\horses in the distance, fluttering leaves etc, etc cause her to have an complete breakdown. Silly chestnut TB mare :-)

We also regularly see low-flying chinooks. One day I was absolutely terrified to see one take off from a couple of fields away and head directly towards us at a height of about150ft.

He flew right over the top of us and the horse didn't even notice because she'd seen a tractor coming up the road towards us - and she's terrified of tractors.

There is a guy in our village that has one and is always flying it about.

They have seen worse things though...like a blade of grass a different colour the rest, or those puddles with sharks in :D

A Chinook flew over her head, a motorbike came whizzing past yards before her, and she didn't move an inch - not bad for a sharp and young horse.

But put mean, mean, fluffy sheep in a field and she gets mental (apparently, she never saw any of those until I bought her). I do think a lot of her negative behaviour are simply just tantrums!!!

Don't think most of the horses on our yard would worry - we regularly get the 'boys playing overhead' out of Old Warden/Shuttleworth plus the local microflyers buzzing around. Is probably no bad thing. Used to be on a yard near the Luton Airport flightpath and sometimes the horses would just look up in apparant wonderment at these planes overhead. Mum and I did get followed by a descending hot air balloon once which was probably the worst experience - just turned to her and said don't look back!!!!

Don't know how true this is, but I was told once that horses had no air-borne predators, and so their instinct is not to be bothered by anything that comes from the sky. Unless it's a plastic bag blowing in the wind of course!

Lol, i own and run an airfield in Devon so we have alot of them about. My livery yard is actually underneath our approach and departure route so we get tonnes of microlights and planes etc coming over. I was riding in the school last week and one came over and did a practive engine failure so came down to about 100 ft above us and then wacked on full power again.....i had kittens as i was just about to go over a jump, paddy didnt bat an eyelid.....but if it had happened out hacking i think he would have had a complete crisis!!

Dylan would have a seizure if we met a microlight while we were out! They quite often fly about where we are, but they're always really high so he doesn't bother with them.

Not sure how my spooky TB would react as he is bad for things like marking on the road n leaves but big flashing gritter dont bother him! Strange one he is lol ;)
