London International Horse Show (Olympia) 2024

Partner used to work as head groundman at a large competion venue that used to host all the big shows like the Blue Chip Championships, Pet Plan Area festivals, BE Eventing and everything in between. Many a time I've watched the likes of Tim Stockdale, Robert Smith, Nick Skelton, Peter Charles, Marie Edgar and the Whittakers to name a few with their up and coming horses, at the big shows, so find it fascinating. I used to love watching them in the collecting ring as it was more interesting to me.

I like watching HOYS on the telly as he gives me a window into the riders personalities, saying some are lovely, the odd one or two arrogant or rude, etc, etc. Most of them I don't know anymore but some of them used to compete where he worked and I used to watch them. Makes me feel very old! Lol

We were rooting for Ben Maher who he used to know well. He rode a previous horse of mine once in the collecting ring when I attended a BSJA show years ago as I was struggling with him and I managed to get really interesting feedback from him.

Really enjoying watching it.

Ok so I’m confused - I recorded everything there was to record on the red button but I seem to only have one evening performance? The one in which the main jumping class was won by the Spanish guy and nearly everyone else got 4 faults? Should I have Friday and Saturday evening?

I have found the World Cup class on BBC 2 now. But is there only one evening performance that has been broadcast?

@Spotherisk thanks for getting back to me - didn’t want to be missing anything! I had thought in past years that more than one evening performance was available.

So the big Saturday night class has not been available anywhere?

Friday full evening was shown and today’s jumping is shown, there was nothing last night. The puissance was on as a standalone program. You haven’t missed anything 😊

A lot of the jumping classes will be on Horse and Country TV.

I can confirm the shopping was not as good this year 😩 our 4th year going at Excel and it was definitely not as good. Lots of lifestyle products and smaller ranges of items from some of the named retailers, well except Le Mieux that had 3 stands! Still an amazing experience, the 6 bar was fabulous to watch!

It was all done more quickly too, just one Shetland race, Santa was very brief compared to previous years. Even the dogs were over very quickly. Shame it all felt very rushed today
TBF the shopping area is now about twice the size compared to the first year, I know the first year was particularly quiet due to stands not being able to get stock guaranteed post covid. A good amount is weird expensive shit that I presume appeals to at least some other people. But actual olympia had gone that way too, particularly upstairs it was always good for a WTF is that jolly.

Haha yes that’s the best way to describe it!!

I know we went in 2021 the first year it was at excel and the shopping was small, it was nicer walking round though than as far fewer people 😂

Seen lots of 4x4 have been stolen from hotel carparks.
Oh my goodness! We forgot to book parking until 2 weeks ago so we ended up parking in Canary Wharf and getting a cab across, blooming glad now!!!

What a shame though not surprised!

I think 4 were stolen in total the one with the trailer from the 'secure' excel lorry park and 3 from hotel car parks (think 2 from holiday inn) think the conclusion is take your shittest car if you aren't towing.

I saw that re the car and trailer. That’s so bad. Presumably you have to leave a key with them like some air port parking. How rotten after the joy of competing there to have that happen.

My partner wonders if these thefts are inside jobs and the security guards are part of the operation?.

Feel very sorry for those who were subjected to these crimes.

I think it might actually be more than four from what I've heard on FB but there have been enough of them to make it confusing how many there actually were. Someone on FB said that a 3.5t had also been taken but I don't know if that is true.

We went yesterday and really enjoyed it. Love LIHS!
