Just wondering how much you pay for livery - part, full, diy grass. Am trying hard to do the maths to make it work to have my own horse (desperate!) but can't find a way to do it economically. Seriously want to move.
I'm in Bexley just outside of London. For DIY, I pay £36 a week which includes breakfast feed, turn out and trailer parking. At present I am on part livery and pay an extra £8 a day, but supply hay, bedding and feed.
Other yards in the area charge approx £45 DIY and up to £110 full livery. I have never had a horse on grass livery, but a friend pays about £25 per week........
Where in Surrey are you Sarah?
My horse lives in Surrey but I am in a London borough and its a 15 minute drive to him. I pay £120 a month for DIY and basic facilities but excellent grazing and hacking.Thats relatively cheap for the area I'm in.
Where are you thinking of moving to?
Seems to be much more north of London. Full livery £600-£800 plus (which is a full mortgage). DIY seems less but unless you live very close to yard and can do all jobs morning and night you would end up paying almost the same for extras. Definitely need to move from this nightmare area!
im SE London and pay £25 a week DIY - not the prettiest of yards but has all year round turnout, nice school and lots of internal hacking. Luckily there is another livery there who has children at school, and so I pay her £5 a day to do each horse if I cant make it down. works out very cheaply, and even if I had her 7 days a week helping, still would only cost me £250 per month plus bedding/feed etc
I am liveried in the Surrey Hills, but work in London. Takes me 45 minutes to drive from the yard to work.
£200/month grass livery - but this includes all food, hay and use of facilities (school, storage, alarmed tack room, rug drying room, exceptional hacking)
There are yards in North London which lack hacking, but do have decent turnout and facilities that are in the region of £160/month DIY or grass. One I know of is about £22 a week DIY - but there is no option to pay for 'extras' you really do have to do it all yourself!
In the 2 North London yards I was at - I paid £29/week DIY, £5 for trailer parking, £2.50 small straw (£10 big bale straw), £35 big bale hay/haylage. He was out 24/7 in the summer (May to September) but limited turnout in the winter (so he ate a lot).
I'm now in Herts (between Luton/Hitchin). I pay £25/week DIY, £5 for trailer parking, £1 small straw, £18 medium sized haylage bales. He is out 24/7 in the summer (April to December) and out 6-6 in the winter (the grass is very good and so I don't get through much haylage and very little hard feed).
Thanks for all your replies. I really appreciate it.
Kombikid, I am sharing now and have been for past three years. Want more than aything to own my own but am finding it so hard to find the right way financially to do it where I live. I want to move!!!!
