Can anyone recommend any long leather boots that aren’t horrendously expensive but are smart enough for exams and local shows. I have size 7 feet and quite fat calves. :O thanks.

Saxon do equileather boots which arnt really leather but look like it and they do loads of sizes. They are quite nice and dont look 'plasticy' at all.Think they are about £35-£40

Depends how much you want to spend, I love my Mountain Horse High Caliber boots but the Sportive version is great too.

Regent Boots are really quite smart - Lynn Russel uses them to show in - they are very traditional looking - and when worn in, quite comfortable I believe.

Unfortunately they don't make them anywhere near the size required for my legs, but they may well fit you

Ariat Bromonts look smarter on than I anticipated - http://www.rideaway.co.uk/index2.php3?se...mp;catcode2=BRS

Petrie Perfects are a bit more, but smart and more range in sizing - http://www.tds-saddlers.com/ProductDetails.asp?PCLinkID=11517

I wouldn't personally go for mountain horse boots for exam/show purposes - even the smartest in their range are a bit non-trad looking.

I wouldn't reccommend Saxon Equileather boots, I've had two pairs and the zip has gone on both really quickly. I have a pair of Just Togs leather look long boots, they're really smart and about the same price. I have the same size feet as you and I have fat calves too

Thanks – I like Bromonts but will find some Regents to try on as they’re cheaper.

I've also had some of the Saxon ones before and they weren't a success.

My equitector boots, although comfotable, have both failed in the zips which have had to be replaced at additional expense after not many wearings. The manufacturers were not interested because they were a year old. Also zipped boots are not waterproof in wet weather. I would not buy another pair

I got a pair of Mark Todd boots £99 recently, they are really nice and have an elastic insert beside the zip to stop it breaking

Funny that, I have only heard bad things about the Saxon ones also!
I shall read this thread with interest because I also have larger calves (well larger compared to most boots LOL) and can't find any boots to fit!
