Just in case something Ive missed on searching other threads comes to light…. Anyone got boot recommendations for riding that I can wear just to womble about in at the yard and are slim and long? I want dry and warm and not too short/wide.

I have tried:
Ariat bromonts - old and scruffy and warm but hurt my heels if I walk around in them for anytime.
Shires moretta alessandra- great fit around calf, good length but haven’t stayed waterproof at all (I did drown them and they’ve never recovered despite best efforts). These probably fit the best but are starting to rub now and only 1yr old and I’ve got permanently damp cold feet even though it’s dry weather at the moment!
Ariat coniston. Ok but 3cm shorter than the shires so catch on saddle flap which drives me nuts.

shires slim are the best fit at 46cm tall and 34cm - 36cm calf width. Everything else I’ve looked at are shorter and/or wider.

i like the look of the mountain horse wild river, good height but 37cm + in the calf which will be too wide.

please has anyone any ideas or any I may have missed (toggi, brogini no good) . I don’t like changing before riding which would be sensible. It’s ok in the summer but I don’t like putting cold boots on when it’s bloomin freezing.

I almost don’t mind how much they are…as long as it’s value for money. I have a new pair of conistons at £280 sitting here but it’s annoying me that they’re too short so trying desperately to see if there are any other options. shires were cheaper but it showed unfortunately.
thank you 😘

Ooh thanks off to google I go 😁

Edited after quick look… doesn’t mention waterproof anywhere ☹️ (And probably too smart for what I’m looking for).
thank you for the suggestion though 👍

ideally both - which is why I wreck them as I expect them to be wellies and nice riding boots but also try and buy cheap! And then I wonder why it goes wrong 🙄

I shall go and explore, thank you.

I have now bought some cheap wellies to try and make myself treat riding boots a bit nicer. There is only so much nice leather boots can cope with before giving up. But I still hate the change over so can’t guarantee I’ll be that nice to them.

I have long slim legs and the mountain horse sovereign boots, which are the slimmest I can find (still a tad big though). They are obviously expensive but I love mine and wear them a lot and they still scrub up like new.

ETA: sorry, didn’t see you want them as yard boots! The mountain horse aurora are a bit sturdier but still not really yard boots.

Thanks people, I think what I want doesn’t exist sadly. although useful to have ideas to look up so thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I have found some Spanish boots (thanks @Cortez ) which are beautiful and far far too nice for me but my goodness they are 😍. If I buy those they won’t be going near a horse tbh. I feel an unsuitable purchase coming in if I can’t find something sensible.

I would like to try some mountain horse boots as they do look like a better option than ariats. But I can’t find any stockists locally. I might have to wait for Hickstead and see if there are any there. I’m sending the ariats I bought back as they are not nice at all, too short and do not feel like value for money tbh. And thats with them being £100 cheaper than rrp. I should have known better as I wasn’t impressed with my last pair.

I did like the shires ones once I’d broken them in but they aren’t terribly warm even before I wrecked them. In fairness they did get extremely wet as I rode in heavy rain and they needed tipping out when I finished so it was a bit of an unfair test. 😂

Does it have to be tall boots? Would you consider a pair of short boots of the sturdier/warmer type and then chaps in your long slim size to pull on for riding?

I do exactly what you’ve described in ancient bromonts and they are perfect - shame yours aren’t as comfortable.

ido have some short boots which I use for summer (ariat telluride) which are mega comfortable but I want warm legs when it’s proper cold. Hence me being hopeful that the Ariat conistons would work…. But they are not comfortable like the tellurides are. as soon as I tried them on I remembered being unimpressed with the last pair I had.

I would just trash my very old bromonts if they weren’t rubbing my ankle (And buy some pretty boots for non trashing purposes!).

thank you for replying, I’m beyond help and far too picky. I want ariats country boots that are longer and are not made by Ariat it would appear.

I've got the Aurora boots in narrow as I have thin calves they are riding boots though I wouldn't want to walk about in them or do chores.

Why don't you just get boots for yard and some nice riding boots I never do anything in my riding boots other than ride, I can't stand riding in country boots or anything similar hence why I change them, I think your gonna struggle to find a boot that basically does both really well.

I only really buy mountain horse I have 4 pairs I have the country boots, classic short boots, Aurora and the venice love them all.

I agree with Fluffypiglet that I hate changing between the warm boots I am in and cold boots to ride, hence the old bromonts being used for both.

Personally I would look on Ebay for boots in the right size and buy a second hand pair of warm riding boots that I don't feel guilty about also wearing on the yard. My bromonts were second hand and have done about 4 winters like this.

I know, I‘m wanting the impossible! I can ride plenty fine in my nice warm bromonts and have bought wellies and warm long socks for the muddy stuff so I need to live with the change over. (I swap out of the shires when going to the field anyway since I made them very not waterproof - nearly fell over in a puddle whilst doing so 🤣)

it’ll soon be warm anyway so it won’t be an issue! I was just being super hopeful

I've had a few pairs of boots over the years from Tuffa and they've been excellent.

I have just had a quick check on their website - how about these..... Tuffa Boots

quick question please @Northern Hare do you find the foot size true to usual? I usually go for a size 6.5 or 7 but they’ve only got the black in 6 and that might be too small. ☹.
