Now winter's here and the mud is appearing, I'd like a pair of long boots to replace my short yard boots and half chaps. There's not loads of mud, but enough that it could be a pain...

I've got the slightly-larger-calf-than-normal problem, so they need to be a bit able to stretch.

I was thinking about the Mountain Horse offerings, but wondered if anyone had any recommendations or any to seriously avoid?

Thank you!

Avoid the mountain horse synthetic ones - the most crippling things I have ever experienced! Ariat grassmeres are always well thought of, and are adjustable so should be comfy for different leg shapes. You can also get a winter version called the glacier.

I bought a pair of Tuffa Suffolks earlier this year as I was fed up changing footwear when I went to go riding.

Really like them but they do come up large and had I known this prior to purchasing I would have bought a whole size smaller.

They also come in wider calf measurement.

OFG, would you recommend these highly then? did they come up big just in the foot or in the calf aswell?

I always recommend Ariat Grasmeres. They're adjustable so fit a variety of leg widths, fully waterproof, warm and great to ride in. Mine were £240 a few years ago but they've been reduced a lot more since then! But totally worth the money, mine look good as new and I ride/muck out/poo pick/everything in mine every day!

The Suffolk is not a riding boot as the sole is too chunky. Go for the Sussex instead - they do a wider calf & have a proper riding sole.
Otherwise why not consider the Muck Boot Tyne? Again got a proper riding sole

Ariat Grasmeres all the way for winter wear. Keep me warm and snug (and I have rubbish circulation). Can hose mud off, no problem, they're waterproof.

I have the monutain horse rimfrost (not sure if still make them?) and have had them around 6 winters now and still going strong.

Also have dublin river boots, though these dont get good ratings i love mine, on my second pair. First pair lasted good 2 years
