Im sure this topic has been done to death but Ive been trying to find a pair of long boots for competing (mainly low level dressage) and it has literally been impossible to find a pair that i can zip up even half way! I have really wide 45cm ish calves and am quite tall (approx 48cm height needed and 42 foot size (although willing to wear 43 if the calf will zip up!)). Im looking for a nice pair to compete in that arent going to cost an arm and a leg!

Love the look of:
Mountain Horse Supreme/Opus/Sovereign/Venice/Richmond High Rider
Brogini 2000/6000
Mark Todd competition boots
Ariat Bromonts

Im not really a fan of the Fuller Fillies boots and I would rather stay away from custom made if possible. Am i looking for something totally impossible?! PLEASE can someone shed some light on some ideas? I came close to ordering some mountain horse ones in the hope that they would stretch some more but I'm not sure they are THAT generous with their sizing?!

Thank you!

After literally a year of searching i came to the conclusion the FF ones are the only ones. Sorry. They are not the best looking but they really are comfortable.

Mountain horse will fit and look smart, last you ages and once broken in are very comfy
Forget about ariats unless you have them widened by a cobbler
Brogini are very comfy and you will get a boot to fit you.
Have you thought of regent??? They do look very smart.

I have really wide calves and bought some Just Togs Classic Tall Boots a couple of years ago. Really comfy and soft, don't need breaking in, and only around £65/70. I love them x

Thanks for the responses everyone..unfortunately the regent and just togs boots only have a 40cm calf and I think expecting them to stretch about 2 inches would put a lot of strain on the zip.

I've looked at getting boots extended by a cobbler before but I was told it would be very difficult to do and there are none around me who were willing to do it unfortunately.

I'm tempted to order some MH boots and try them and return them if they're not a good fit (no tack shops within a 2hr drive stock them)..after that I might have to give in and go with fuller fillies.

I think my Mountain Horse High Rider (short and wide fit) boots came up quite generous once they were broken in. Initially getting the zip done up was tight and I thought they were going to be a no but only a couple of weeks on and they were fine. Two years on and mine are a little loose now. My calves aren't as wide as yours but I'm also a smaller foot size and if I remember correctly the calf size increases with foot size.

Have you seen Shires Norfolk boots? They do a huge range of width and height fittings.

have a look on line at The Spanish Boot Company. They do 2 styles of boot with a 45cm calf and they go up much higher than a 42. I take a 44 and I have just ordered a pair! (43 as they come up big according to the size guide).

Thank you everyone - will have a look at tuffa shortly.

Im really liking the look of Sarm Hippique but can anyone tell me is there only one size chart available despite there being a range of boots? The xxw would fit my calf but would be too short unfortuately!

Thanks all - have sent a few emails around to see if the sarm hippique come in a longer length. Can't make international calls on my phone unfortunately. Fingers crossed they'll work out. They're exactly what I'm after!

Try the Mountain Horse Firenze. I have wide calves (although not quite as wide as yours) and the wide fit has plenty of room in them for me so should be ok for you. I'm 5'6 (but with quite a short leg) and have the normal height and they are ever so slightly too long for me. I wear a heel lift insole to stop them digging into the back of my knee so they'd be plenty long enough for you. They look really smart and sleek too.

ETA - it seem Derby House have 20% off boots today too. http://www.derbyhouse.co.uk/mountain-horse-firenze-high-rider

Thanks for that...I went to order them only to find they were taken off the website along with most of the mountain horse boots. Strange as they were on it yesterday.

That's a shame. There's a few other places selling them (possibly cheaper than Derby house even with the 20% off) so have a hunt online. I got them in a sale about 18 months ago so only paid £115 for them, but I'd gladly pay full price for them, they're lovely. So soft they were comfy straight away and didn't need any breaking in.

I gave up looking for long boots to fit me! I've a size 6 foot with a massive calf :(

I use short boots with gaitors. Ariats go up pretty large, I've a pair of tuffa ones now and I love them! They've a stretchy panel at the back so you get a really snug fit!

I much prefer the short boots and gaitor combination now as I feel like I can move my ankle much more than I could in long boots! They're pretty reasonable too - I think the gaitors are about €75 on their website?

My current show wear is ariat short boots and gaiters which are grand...but I would just love a pair of long boots! It really is an impossible task :(

What about Tuffa? They do some smart ones and do larger calf sizes - I don't have a pair so can't comment on them other than they look nice and aren't ludicrously expensive!

I was very lucky and got a pair of second hand Equitectors from someone who had got them made to measure and was selling them because her horse was retired. I'm a size 6 and 17" calf so had pretty much resigned myself to never owning long boots!
