Long Distance English Horse Rider Imprisioned in India

A young English equestrian explorer has been imprisoned after making a historic journey over the legendary Tea Horse Trail which stretches from China, across the Himalayas, through Tibet and down into India.

Having nearly perished with his two horses during a 3,000 kilometre journey through the Himalayas, David Robinson has been imprisoned in India because he entered that country without a visa. Denied a lawyer, and about to face an extended imprisonment despite wide spread calls for his release by the Indian press, the family of the ill-fated traveller has appealed to riders around the world to sign a petition urging the Indian court to show mercy.

With only two days left before David's court appearance, we are hoping that you can take a few moments to read about the fate of this equestrian explorer and thereafter join us in calling for his release.

How awful. But it begs the question, why did he not have a visa sorted? Surely he had his route planned in advance?

When Ewan McGregor and Charlie Borman done the Long Way Round on motorbikes they have their route planned out right from beginning to end and couldn't start out until they had visas for every single country they were to enter.
 
I agree. I planned on doing a long distance ride across Arabia and all the visa's were to be sorted out beforehand.....does seem strange that he didn't do this, however perhaps he became lost and just ended up in India??

I wonder what happened to his horse? Hope he gets out of there okay though.
 
If you read the article, he accidently strayed into India, looking for help. And people coming to this country claim to be treated badly. Perhaps they would like to change places?
 
Exactly. The poor guy had no choice. Look at the fuss over Jade Goody being a bully (which she was) - but this guy was only trying to survive - and has been treated like a dangerous criminal

Seems that he made the decision to enter India and as such has been treated like any other person who illegally enters a country. Yes it is a sad tale and it sounds like he didn't research or plan it very well, but I wish him well and hope that it all comes right in the end.
