Hi

Has anyone ridden the Mary towneley loop or similar alone? I really want to do it but can't get anyone to come with me. Not sure how safe it would be alone?

Sally

I love riding on my own but just googled the route you mentioned, would want a companion on that one. But husband calls me " miss health and safety" lol. So most probably not worth listening to me. Just enjoying new member posting syndrome....

Had no idea what this was so had a quick Google. 47 miles is that right? I wouldn't worry about doing on my own on my horse although if just going for a pleasurable trail then I guess it could be a little bit lonely! I think as long as someone knew where I was and I updated them throughout the trip (presumably you do it over more than one day?) then I think going it alone is fine.

We went as a group of 3 last week. I've ridden long distances alone in the past and not really thought twice about it. I'm not really the most safety conscious about that sort of thing though. It was more enjoyable with someone to talk to and I think we went a bit faster than I would have done by myself as my friend's pony is so forward going. The Mary Towneley loop had plenty of cyclists etc. on it, it's not like a total wilderness.
It's 3 days unless you want a real hard distance ride when you could do it in 2.

Three of us did it in two days. Going is rough and I would not recommend it in less than three days, but would happily do it alone. Stabling on route is fabulous. Gates and going not so good! Go for it.

I was thinking of doing it over at least 3 days sometime in September. Was planning on meeting up with my mum on daily basis so wouldn't not see another human for three days. Have done twenty mile+ day hacks a lone before, just didn't know how in the middle of no where this one is

I live very near to the mary towneley loop route itself and hack along elements of it alone daily. As has been said, the gates are a real problem in places, winds me up every time I get to one! I have never felt unsafe, certainly on the routes that I take with my horse - and I know other areas along the way well and can say that I'd have no problem hacking along them by myself. The views are stunning, stabling is brilliant and there are some really nice pubs along the way too :D would be a great ride alone or in company, definitely recommend it :)

Brill think ill go for it- excited! Seriously tho if anyone would like to join pm me, am off work 19-29 September so will be sometime during then.

I don't mind hacking long distances on my own but when I do LDRs I always go with my friend, it might just be me but I find it helps moral to have company and if one of the horses starts lagging a bit the other one can go in front for a little while. But I would consider going on my own too.
