I have a long dog, (greyhound x whippet) which I rehomed from a rather neglectful owner in May this year. She is about 8, the vet thinks. She is on Burns Chicken and Rice dry food and is fed morning and evening.
A couple of days ago, she started having very runny stools. She is out and about with me most of the time. Since I have had her she has been wholly clean in the house. She has now done several very runny poos on the living room carpet, with no request to go out prior to doing them, yesterday and today. Obviously, I haven't said anything to her, just cleaned up the poo and disinfected/scrubbed the carpet. Poor dog!
The only two things I can think of that may have triggered this are being started on Rimadyl by vet 12 days ago - one tablet with food, re stiff left hip, and stealing a bowl of the cat's dry food, which is James Wellbeloved Turkey and Rice. Cat was not pleased!
Could you give me the benefit of your knowledge and experience? Are either of the above likely to be responsible? What to do?
I'm back to the vet on Friday for him to review her stiff hip and adjust meds as necessary.
I've owned dogs all my life, but almost all Gsd's. My beloved last one was pts in March this year, aged 13, with sudden onset kidney failure. I was not going to have another dog for a while, being very sad about the loss of my Gsd. However, this one (the whippety person) was going to be pts, because she was "getting in the way of (the previous owner's) my life , and all the rescues are full and she's got to go - now!". So here she is and is a lovely trainable dog who gets on v well with horses, dog, cats and rabbits and people! Perfect - except for the squitty bum!
