I've just got a lovely ideal VSD saddle in the frogpool saddle, but it's got long girth straps and I'm used to normal ones!
So dressage girth will be purchased, but I'm confused about what to do with my numnahs, as I can't see anywhere for me to put the strap at the top round the saddle... Do I need to get a special numnah or saddlecloth?

Feel free to tell me to use my normal one if I'm being exceptionally dim

The bottom ones can!!!!
There are 2 girth straps, one comes out of the bottom of the saddle at the front, and the other is attached to a nylon v-shaped band at the back, and so the loop on the numnah isn't long enough to reach it.

I knew it was too much of a bargain, it'll cost me a fortune to re-accessorise!

With my dressage saddle the top loop goes in between the saddle [the flap and the underside] if that makes sense, and rests over the top of the knee roll and through the first girth strap.

That does make sense, and is what I was expecting to be able to do!

Unfortunately with this saddle the first girth strap is actually attached to the bottom of the underside - it's a cob-type design, so I'm guessing it's to stop the saddle slipping forward (or back).

Hmm, I think i might need a numnah with no straps... he he he more shopping!

Snip them off or just tuck them out of the way. Saves buying unless you were after an excuse lol.

Maybe it's a frogpool thing. I bought a new Albion VSD last year and it has long girth straps and the first comes from out of the bottom but the second doesn't and most of my numnahs still fit/stretch to the last strap. I only have one that doesn't so I just use the bottom girth straps and it stayed in place fine for hacking and jumping.

At first I had to get everyone to do my girth up for me as I couldn't reach but now I find it more difficult to adjust a girth on a normal saddle.

I have asked a couple of saddlers about changing it back to normal straps and it wasn't a pricey or difficult job, I just have to get around to doing it.

Thanks all!

I think I'll try tucking them under for now - it was really annoying me yesterday having them flap around.
I've got to buy a dressage girth for it anyway, so that will fulfill my shopping needs nicely!

Please be careful about just tucking them in as if you have a sensitive horse they will feel this and they can rub, even the not sensitive.

I have a single flap event saddle and where a poly pad underneath it and it doesnt slip at all.

Agree with Holly Jane, much better to cut the straps off rather than tuck them under otherwise you are creating a pressure point under the saddle

Nuumed do saddlecloths and numnahs with d ring fastenings. I prefer them as stops the cloth pulling tight over withers. If you want the GP version will have to specially order it. They do dressage or close contact cloths with d ring fastenings as standard.
