Long leather boots: Mark Todd or Broginis??

Hello,

Am looking for a pair of long leather boots for mainly dressage and showing. They need to be as plain as possible as I show an M&M. Budget is max £160. I like the Shires Norfolk ones but they came up a bit short as I have quite long legs.

Have seen the Mark Todd Long Leather boots on Equestrian Clearance and also some Brogini Roma 2011 boots on another website so if anyone has any feedback on those that would be great. Only concern with the MT ones is that it says they have the logo on the outside of the heel which wont look great in the show ring (yes, I am fussy!).

Any recommendations welcome.

I just got a pair of mountain horse richmond high rider boots for M&M showing. They werent my first choice (think theyre a bit workmanlike) but got them at a flood damage sale, were seriously reduced so had no choice but to buy them! Before that I had been looking at Broginis, think they are a lovely boot, sensibly priced and supposed to be durable and long lasting. I have never seen the Mark Todd's in person though.

..after reading back I'm not sure if that is of much help!:rolleyes:
 
I've just got a pair of Brogini Roma 2011 which are beautiful leather and great value for money, direct from here in a huge variation of sizes:

Foot size is true for thin socks. 40 is bang on 6 1/2. If you have wide feet, they may be narrow for you and you may need to go up a size. Calf size and length are spot on.

Mine are a lovely pair of boots. I rode two dressage tests in them straight out of the box and they were more comfortable than the Petries that I have replaced them with , I'm chuffed with them.




ps anyone want a free pair of Petrie EXTRA long height EXTRA thin calf size non-zip boots? I hate to see them go to waste.

I was in the same position last year, similar budget etc.
I've got Mark Todds after trying on almost every brand at Burghley last year. They were by far the best fit for me and so far I really like them, The leather is soft and are comfy to wear after only a few times and being oiled once. I didn't want to spend that much money without trying on first to make sure they fitted properly and were comfy so it was really good to take advantage of Burghley.
The other brand I looked at and also liked were Rectiligne
 
Thanks everyone. I am slightly in love with the broginis but the mark Todd ones are so much cheaper, grrr!
 
I have the mark Todd boots too and I've been really pleased with them! They broke in pretty quickly and are comfy. I did end up getting mine in a size five though (normally I'm a 6) as the calf size was slimmer and I have irritatingly bony legs, but the foot size was fine so maybe they come up a little big?
 
I have the Mark Todd (Field Competition Boot) and love mine. I show a M&M too at county level, also do BritishDressage and jumping, so they are a really good allround, smart, comfy and good value boot. I don't think you'd be dissapointed with them. In the past i've had much pricier boots (Sarm Hippiques) but the Mark Todds are my favs.
 
They do 48s but heavens how long are your legs? I'm over 5ft 8 and 47s are too long for me.

Petrie length are different because their measurement includes the heel and Brogini don't, so my Petrie's are 51 but they are too long for me.
 
Thanks everyone, have ordered some Mark Todds online, fingers crossed they fit! They were too much of a bargain to refuse!

I tried some on last Sunday, and the size chart in the shop only went up to 47cm - the extra extra long. My legs are 48.5cm - the 47cms were too short. I'm 5ft7, and 34" inside leg on a squished day.

My height is all lanky limbs. I have a very short body! LOL
 
Thought I'd add my 2p worth as I also tried the Mark Todd boots. I agree with whoever above said the calf is a slightly strange fit. I'd say it was more geared towards a male leg than a female leg and I have reasonable sized calves! In the end I went for the Mountain Horse Firenze which are very nice and so far I'm really pleased with them.
 
I've just ordered Broginis, been looking at them for ages. In the end didn't really have a choice, as I'm a shorty and they were the only ones in my length. Just hope I'm not disappointed.
 
Do Brogini's come in 51cm leg length? I have always wanted a pair and can't find them!
I have mountain horse supreme high riders in long narrow but to get the narrowness I had to skimp on foot size and they are horrible to walk in as too small but fit perfectly on the leg and height
 
absolutely adore my Broginis :) Great fit, nice and flexible, and despite being the 'budget' range last well, and I'm horrible with mine! Muck out, turnout, school, hack and lunge in mine, and they still scrub up well enough to do the (admittedly small amount of!) competing that I do

This! Although I admit after torturing my first pair, then spending a winter in those awful rubber boots due to being skint and ending up with reeeeeally sore feet, I'm glad my mum treated me to some ariats for 'general yard abuse'! Hoping that means I can save my Brogini's for competing when I get around to it :rolleyes: And the ariats are toasty... :o
 
OP - did you buy the £85 Mark Todd boots from Equestrian Clearance?

I bought a pair a month or so ago to trash round the yard and whilst they're perfect for that I don't think I'd compete in them.The toe is a rather round shape, the leather isn't brilliant (although I am used to expensive Italian boots so may be being a bit snobbish here :p) and I didn't realise they were going to have elastic inserts in the calf. My calves are too skinny for them already really and I don't want them to stretch or give at all. They also have odd rubber spur rests on both sides of the heel.

They're perfect for what I want them for and decent for the price but I wouldn't have picked them for competing.

I believe that MT do a higher spec more expensive boot which is supposed to be much nicer,

Yes I did buy the MT's from Equestrian Clearance - agree they are probably not the most top quality or posh for competing but they were comfortable very quickly and for the level of competing I am planning to do (think unaffiliated dressage / local shows) I think they are fine. So far I've just worn them for schooling and lessons and am very pleased with them. :)


If I ever get to the stage where I'm competing at a high enough level to warrant posher boots I shall buy myself a more expensive pair in celebration!! :D
