Since Fly has been laid up due to his leg injury he has got fat and bored. Leg nearly healed now so decided to long line him yesterday around the lanes so i could have a good look at his action from behind. He was so good and really enjoyed it. I have decided to do this more often as a normal part of our exercise routine even when I am riding him again. Just wondered what you all thought the benefits (if any) are of long lining regularly and whether anyone else did this on a regular basis? (he's 11 by the way and probably hasn't been long lined since breaking).

Long lining provides great benefits to the horse. It is a way of exercising them without a rider's weight. It helps to get horses out and about seeing life. You can do all kinds of schooling exercises long lining - serpentines, circles, rein back. trotting, everything. And far more fun for a horse than endless lungeing too.

Yeah i do a lot of long lining, mainly on the lunge and for working on lateral work. Its nice as you can have them soft by your hand rather than gadgets
