What equipment should you use? I'm guessing a bridle and bit and two lunge lines, but should you also use a roller? Or anything else?

I often long rein with just bridle and two long lunge lines. However, it is better to use a roller to keep the lines in order and to position where you want the lines to go.
 
You can also use your saddle if you do not have a roller, just lower the stirrups and join them with rope under the belly or tie them to the girth, I also long rein with a chambon on as well.
 
If you haven't long reined much before, as the poster above said they use a chambon, sometime it's good to use side reins, fairly loose as it just helps keep your horse straight!

You can also put the lines through the roller or the stirrups, which depends on which you prefer.

Goodluck, I am so crap at this - it is quite tricky but it helps if your horse is quite forward thinking and marchs on. x
 
Thanks peeps. Well I don't have a saddle for him yet, not broken so haven't bought one, though if anyone has an old one that is only good for breaking, let me know!

I know he's been successfully long reigned before (though not by me) so should know what he's doing, but do you think getting a roller would be a good idea as I'm not experienced with long reigning?
 
I couldn't long line for toffee last year but I'm a dab hand at it now.

I use a bridle, a roller or the saddle and put the lines through the stirrups. Must admit I get some lovely work from her.

I find it alot easier than lunging
 
Well he's great on left lunge, really not so on right. So thinking about doing some long reigning with him too, get him bending more.

Can anyone suggest somewhere to get a cheap roller? Or have a second hand one you want to sell me? Lol, also, how do you measure for one?? My boy is rather round....
