I’ve now started to long rein bugger lugs, first time out in 9 months, first time out on long reins, second time in them (he’s a quick learner!) anyway I knew one of us was going to experience some pain (the likely hood of him getting a little ar*e whooping was relatively high as he tends to prefer not to leave the yard gate under saddle despite spending 2 years being paraded round the village on a head collar and lead rope like a dream…dope on a rope, you couldn’t ask for a better horse to lead (so no its not confidence issues before anyone suggests it, its down right Kevin the Teenager syndrome ‘’don’t wana can’t make mi’’ and I’ll run backwards and buck you off if you try….hence hitting the deck a few too many times.

Tried him going down the drive, big growl and a harsh wack worked (when he tried little stunt), he through his teddy out and bucked and no doubt told me in horse language to ******** (feel free to use your imagination and add your own French in there

) when he learnt that I was actually on the ground to begin with and no matter how much he tried he couldn’t break every bone in my body or threaten to throw me into the nearest dike or impale me on a fence post, the penny finally dropped and he walked out like a dream, in fact he rather enjoyed his self and settled into nice level headed but active walk, so more than pleased with him and a good start to 2010, may it continue!

Only problem is my feet are now killing, you know when the bottom of your feet burn, like friction burn, well is it your socks or your footwear?....or because your feet are sweaty? (sorry too much info I know

) but this is really going to benefit him, both fitness wise (both of us), confidence wise (he needs to learn to go forward with my babysitting him from being at his shoulder..that the problem) and it’s a great way of watching his movement from behind etc but I can’t do it if its going to do this to me every time I’m crippled today with what feels like blisters but there not actually there.

Sorry I know its a strange post, but you know me if its not fanny chaff its feet chaff

M&S Luxuary Chocolate Buscuit Selection to those with serious answers, although I might invest in a pair off ski's for when the snow comes again.

In the walking game, they recommend you always wear two pairs of socks, so the socks can rub against each other and not against your foot causing blisters/soreness. Not sure if it would help but might be worth a try!

Thanks for the biccie!

you could wear trainers?

not very BHS i know, but when long reining your feet and his feet hopefully won't be coming into contact so no risk of squashed toes!

i have really nice fluffy, thick socks to wear with my boots but if i long rein 3 in one day i still get pulsing feet!

what foot wear are you wearing? are we talking balls or heels or what?

When ever I have had to do a lot of walking job wise I can thoroughly recommend scholl gel air pillow insoles

they are better than plain gel ones.

and well done on getting him out

Frank loves long reining, makes him feel like he is in charge out in front!
grin.gif
shame he dislikes it so much if I put something behind him, he is determined that I shall walk/run and not be pulled along

I tend to have that effect on people, usually they laugh at me rather than with me, but who cares if it raises a smile eh!

It must of toned my bottom too because I feel like I've done a 1000 squats, doesnt look less saggy but I recon if I keep this game up I'll have buttocks like boiled eggs and could give Brangelina a run for her money!....minus the boobs though

I know how your feet feel. Fleur was the same - her napping got so bad, I went to long reining. She was fine with me beside her.

Nice long reins and lunge whip as as she stood on her hind legs, I have to confess to saying "go over bitch and break your back - you're insured and £5k will buy me something nice (I had really had enough at that point in time).

She was rather shocked at me standing there waiting for her to come down and then drive her forward again and I had to run flat out to keep up with her trot - 5' dumpling with short legs and a very big moving 17 hand warmblood are not ideally suited as running mates.

Hope he gets the idea soon that hacking is fun.

We did miles like this and whilst she still could be difficult to ride out, she would go out most of the time by herself.

BHS...who are they?

Right then so thats a pair of runners and some fluffy socks, I shall look a treat! mind you I might need them to run in when we start trot work.

hmmm what about roller skates?

has image of bugger lugs deciding he quite enjoys this taking off at a stonking trot with kenzo behind on roller skates with no braking whatsoever

Buy some Ski Socks/Ski Tubes really comfortable as they fit like a glove so nothing to move about inside your boot.

Have had no problem with Foot friction since wearing them.

Not had any fanny friction but did need thawing out after riding in a wind chill of minus 20 for 45 mins in the New Year! bloody bloody ouch! Try explaining that one to your OH!

You have obviously been in the same boat, I've had many a nappy horse before and always managed to win the battle mounted but this guy really does give you a run for your money, he's a clever so and so yet can be down right stubbon at times, I almost admire him for it which is why I enjoy the challange, all be it sometimes I feel like tearing my hair out or shooting the dam thing (ok maybe not the latter I love him really) but you get my point, he's horse you can learn a lot from.

lol I've already had that image and it aint good, it would be a cross between Rosey Webster and Ugly Betty (now I'm back in my specs, with my one eye, sporting a think fringe and back to being a brunette!)

I just need the braces on my teeth!

be careful of car drivers passing too close when long reining down the road the last time i did it i ended up in hospital for 2 weeks with a smashed foot courtesy of a 4x4

oh gosh you poor thing, how terrible, yes it something I'm not keen on really as you get so many idiots, thankfully it was a Sunday so it was a bit quieter.
