I've started long reining my youngster. She's fine in the school and - to start with - was doing well in the field. However now she's decided that, after a circuit in the field, it's much nicer to eat the grass than do any work. It doesn't matter what I do - whoosh the whip, raise my voice, strip naked - she just keeps munching. What do I do????

Wow never had that one! The obvious one is keep her forward and don't give her the chance but I've known some very clever little buggers who can eat in a split second.

Might I suggest a daisy rein? Doens't even have to be a real leather one, a bit of string that runs from the middle of your surcingle up the top of the neck and tie it onto the crown of the bridle/headcollar. When the horses head is in a "normal" position if should be very slack but when she puts her head down it goes tight. Say below the knees. Most horses will try it a few times and realise they can't get away with it and give up. Hopefully she'll grow out of it and you can take it off.

Heres a pic of a nylon one that's only £12 if you did want to buy
