Thanks for the advice that people gave me about long reining, particularly Shilasdair

I tried it tonight and she was completely fab. She must have done it before because she did it straight away. We had to go in the manege because it was dark but I took her round the outside to start off with and she was great. I had her changing the rein and doing basic transitions and she was really responsive. Our only problem came on the downwards transitions once she got going. She is massively fitter than I am and had no intention of stopping because she was having far too much fun trotting round the manege watching me trying to keep up in full winter wear of steel toe cap boots, two pairs of trousers, a tshirt, two shirts, two jumpers and a fleece. I think it might be a while before we try canter

It was just really nice to have something different to do in winter and keep her enjoying her work. I'll be thinking about driving next...
