Horse has had physio today, due to his new muscles :D his saddles is now pinching :( booking saddle fitter on Wednesday but in the mean time I have been advised to lunge/long rein.

Our lunging is shocking, I do more work than the horse as he just turns to face me! So needing to use two reins so I thought I'd do a few mini hacks round the farm, anyway...

When you lunge/long rein with two lines, where do you attach them? Previously I've clipped to the bit, threaded though the roller and held the ends, but I have recently seen it clipped to the roller through the bit and to the hand?

How do you attach yours?

Humm, yes I suppose you're right, never thought of it like that. Aiming for long and low so draw rein action is about as far removed from what I want as you can get!

I think the aids are blunted quite often when long reining and so they tend to be harsher. It's hard to get a gentle contact on the bit from so far away sometimes. So i really wouldn't like to do it clipped to the roller, sounds a bit harsh. I always go through the roller and clipped to bit, the middle roller rings, not the high ones. But i have seen it through the top rings and it does mimic more where the hands are i suppose. Makes it harder to control the back end swinging out though.

I always clip bit-through roller-hands. Depending on what sort of effect i want to have i either walk behind about 6-8' so i can control her behind or walk slightly to the side of her bum on each rein to have a more realistic rein contact and so she can hear me as if i were on her.
