Long tails! Surely they can't be real!!!

Gosh

Not sure i like them that long! Look how all the horses carry themselves as they go round to.

Those tails are real... A lady down the road has a couple of saddlebreds she shows... Their tails are amazingly long! She wraps them up in a bandage (just the bottom) in the field.

Yeh i used to work at a mini shetland and arab stud and my boss her 2 arab stallions had really long manes and tails, they were a bugger to wash before shows!

It's not a fashion thing - Arabs mane and tails cannot be cut, just like native breeds, if they want to be shown in any arab class accross the world, including western.....

Although I must admit their tails are unusually long!! Pasha's tail hasn't grown the in 13yrs we've had him - I wish it would

You're all going to hate me now! My horses tail is very very long and he is Grey, his mane is also long. And yes he is a part bred Arab.

I love it and love arabs and used to be a western rider.

Everyone on my yard tells me to lop his hair to a sensible length, but I just can't and won't do it.

I'm with you there MM.

I love my arabs and hate every single thing about that clip, as you say, they look like moulded wind-up barbie toys. That head carriage is so not right. I watched the in hand ones too, hated those also, it's all so false, and arabs apparently, move like hackneys now

.........and as for those ridiculous tails, what use are they like that? I was at a show in September and the horses there had drag along tails, when they backed up as part of the class one stepped on his own tail and pulled it out, his handler finished the class carrying a hairpiece in her hand. We saw another horse have his pulled out because someone trod on it.

Hopefully bobbed tails won't come in again.

I went to watch a county show last summer and there was a traditional coloured cob in a class thats tail was even longer then theirs and its mane was down to its knees, looked nice but i couldnt put up with it myself.

I think they look stunning but that clip to me symbolised human dominance over animals in its most extreme form - those horses looked uncomfortable and unnatural. I feel sorry for them

but I can't help admiring their beauty.

I expect they use tail bags. You can (apparently) get mane bags too.

I have a native pony whose mane is down to his shoulder. His tail sweeps the floor normally. But every autumn I cut six inches off his tail to stop the mud dreads forming; by spring it has grown back to look 'natural' again.

I agree - think they look really unnatural and stiff. Is this real western? Ive ridden quarter horses western and they weren't like this at all - they were SO chilled out and relaxed.

The tails look horrible. Really really nasty! WHY WHY WHY?!

Oh dear, whenever I trimmed my arab tails in the past I used to razor them, I was shown that by a showing acquaintance who has done quite well with arabs in the ring.

The tails in those clips just looked so odd like that, they must never have been cut at all. Can you imagine what they'd look like in a grass ring at a wet UK showground

?

I usually enjoy watching western classes, everything seems so effortless which belies the hours of training etc, but the arabs there, ugh, not my cup of tea at all, lifeless and automated, no zing!

We went shopping in the USA and found a big tack shop selling western and 'English' and they had lots of false tails for sale at about $249 each and definatly felt and looked like real hair, at that price they must have been.
We were told that they still break the saddlebred foals tails when they are v small to get the high tail carraige, Im not sure theyve done that with these arabs though.
