Long tails! Surely they can't be real!!!

[ QUOTE ]
So how would you say they get them to carry their tails up then. Its unnatural, my arab doesnt have his tail up when hes doing a slow jog like they are.

Huh? Was that aimed at me?

That was revolting to watch, only one or two had correct gaits and some loked very irritated by those tails, how I would love to take a couple of feet off a couple of them

My arab goes like that. It's nothing I've ever taught or asked him to do, it's just 'his way'. Teeth, back, saddle checked, and he still does it. I switched fom a bit to hackamore two years ago, and even if I drop the reins completely and have no contact at all he still does this thing, chin tucked into his chest and a rocking horse canter.

Sadly he has dreadful sweetitch so he's never going to be any competition for those American horses.

Bog brush tail and scrubbing brush mane doth not an Arab make!!

Itz it wasnt aimed at anyone ! I just wondered if anyone knew how they got them to hold their tales like that when they werent happy as my arab only does it when hes floating about
Thats weird as I was replying to the post above me but it came in as if Id replied to yours. No idea how I managed to do that

LOL!! They do look really silly, those detachable tails

. They cost a fortune and I never really understand why anyone would want them.

The 2 Arabs at my farm both go like this too

. They are only 3 and 4 years old and certainly my little one has never been taught to go like this, she just does LOL!!

Over here, working western horses always have long tails....and even if they are lightly trimmed they are NEVER block cut. Most of my guys tails are only a few inches off the ground.

Part of the reason for leaving outside horses tails long here is because of the flies. My first year I neatly trimmed up all of my horses tail to mid-way between their rear cannon bones....yes they looked smart.....but I VERY quickly realised (to my horror) that I had seriously impeded them by doing this silly thing.

. I won't ever do it again though.

I still don't like the false tails though

Now, to be fair, these are a couple of years old and they are really trying to make changes in the way the horses go. But still . . .this is one of the top shows on the continent.

What's really amazing is the money involved in AQHA showing. Unbelievable! And they have a scheme where horses earn points for the year and the AQHA pays out a certain amount per point at years end. Yee haw. Or how about "double judging" where the same class is pinned seperately by two different judges. . .

I tell ya, it's a whole different world!

I rode a horse that went like this when I first came over and it was awful, no contact and nothing in front of me, having ridden butty little arabs with high head carriage for years it was one heck of a shock to the system. How do you get a horse to set his head that low, it just doesn't seem natural, or is it?

I am sitting here with my mouth open. How extremely weird those horses look to me. Just weird. There is no expression, individuality, character or anything. They just look depressed.
Or is it me? Even the jumping ones, although they were a bit livelier, seemed peculiar. How on earth do they train them to go like that? And why?

Although they go in a different shape, I thought they looked quite like the horses here in a character, expression sense, most horses I see showing look a bit depressed! To me it just looks like a different way of training, or the horses are just like that (not sure lol), not a whole lot worse than ours really. I was watching the arab in hand videos and they were going crazy - galloping, rearing and this was in a championship, and they were all doing it! I think we'd be asked to leave the ring if that happened over here lol!

Apparently Arabs are expected to show 'spirit'. I have a friend with a beautiful but well-behaved Arab who never get anywhere showing and has been told that he is too quiet.
