Has anyone had a horse on steroids for a long period. ie. 6 months to a year or even for years.

If so have you any good or bad stories. Would be appreciated if so
 
Hi my horse was on steroids (predingdale 5 tablets ) for about 8 mths large quantities sometimes 100 a day ! I was worried sick with all the stories on the net , risk of lammi too , so I took him off them & looked for the root of his problem. Took quite a while but hes now steroid free & hope it stays that way . X
 
thanks Jenie, my horse was on 100 per day for 5 months. The vet and I can't find an alternative (he has an auto immune disease) unfortunately. He is great on them and awful off them. He is about to start a lower dose to see is it works as a maintenance solution, if the problem can't be permanently fixed.
 
mine only has problems on one leg, but the leg gets hairless and covered in sores , he also becomes generally unwell. He headshakes, which I think is connected and gets manically itchy round his muzzle.
 
Arrw that sounds awful for your horse & you , its a shame not the same symptoms as my boy as possibly could of helped you . I hope you get things sorted out soon & find an alternative to help . X
