Do jackets exist these days that have riding vent and cover your bum and the back of saddle so if you get caught out hacking in rain it doesn't waterfall off your jacket through your jodhs and your pants. Do these exist?

Not looking for the long old style wax / dry-as-a-bone type ones, just enough to keep my pants dry.

I'm fed up looking at expensive jackets that probably aren't that waterproof and even if they were, even the 'long' ones are too short for my 'long back' or is it manufacturers are tight on the use of materials....

Not keen on waterproof trousers, sweaty, uncomfortable, does the water not pool under the saddle and seep through anyway? unless anyone has any recommendations...

.....yes I did get caught in the rain today(!) and I'm fed up shopping for something I can't find... :( Thanks in advance!

I've got a jack Murphy one that covers the tops of my legs and over the back of the saddle . Think you can get them in different lengths too .

I have a Dublin one that I got a few years ago, no idea if they still sell them but definitely waterproof still! Paired with decathlon waterproof jodhs I stay toasty and dry in most weathers!

I got a Toggi one recently due to the same reason! It's been fab. I can't remember the name of it, but it was reviewed on the e-venting.co.uk website so you can probably find it on there.

Also the HKM Pro soft shell breeches are brilliant for keeping my legs dry and warm. They're on offer on Equus at the moment.

I have a lovely Musto one. It's a few years old but I'm pretty sure they still do a version. I got it half price as it was being discontinued and a new version had been launched which was more or less the same shape.

I use a Ri dry coat, it's advertised for hunting but I use it on any wet day, they come up big and they are not that warm on their own but that's fine with me as I can fit an extra coat underneath if it's cold!

Thank you so much everyone for replying and feeding back ideas, much apprecated! I'm now hopefully going to have a more successful eve shopping on line than I did last night...

Interesting to hear good reports on the water proof jodhs too so will look in to that, I'm west coast Scotland so plenty opportunity for me to ride in the rain and them to get good use :)

Worth keeping an eye on Ebay for the Musto Suffolk coat. Recommend waterproof breeches too, god send if you have a waterproof and thermal pair!

I treated myself to a Musto Suffolk riding coat for Christmas. Used it for the first time this weekend and stayed lovely and dry and was very comfortable to ride in. It also looks nice as fairly fitted. Not at all cheap though.

I had a long Jack Murphy one from years ago and it was good for many years even when washed. Not totally waterproof now as it must be about 9 years old but I barely venture out now in heavy rain :D but was impressed over the years how well it stood up to the wet for a relatively inexpensive long coat. I may invest in another one at some point.

I have musto canter long jacket, it has bit a the front that press studs in to cover lap & tops of thighs. I have waterproof chaps but found with old coat water ran off bottom of coat down top of chaos erghh. Is sale on musto site at mo

Rain legs to cover the front of your legs (more ventilation than waterproof jods although obvs not as effective) and any cheapo hi-viz jacket/rain coat that comes in workman's sizes so will more than cover bum? (Assuming this is for hacking)

Get your rug washing service to reproof it - had my very elderly Musto reproofed and it's properly waterproof again.

I bought a Harry Hall one at New Year, got riding vent at the back, and the bonus is that it has reflective (but discreet) panels, which show up brilliantly in the dark. Also has those bits that go over your thumb (no idea what they are called!) to stop the draughts. Had to buy a larger size than normal though. It's been brilliant, warm, dry and keeps my derriere dry in the rain.

I'm another Ridry fan, it's the only thing that really keeps you dry. I do wear waterproof breeches (of the non sweaty variety) as well though. I live in the wettest county in the UK, so I need something effective!

Decathalon do a fab capey/poncho type thing. It even has a hood that you can put up over your hat (yes really!) It is probably of zero use on anything that doesn't like things that flap as it tends to do a bit of flapping about (esp if you insist on testing it out at gallop...) and it is impossible to take on and off whilst mounted (unless you have a horse holder) as you have to pull it over your head but it covers the entire saddle and is lightweight enough to use in summer but big enough to use over loads of layers in winter.
