have a horse on the yard (he is retired and lives in the field) was found with a nail in his foot down the side of his frog and in about half a centimetre

anyway this was 23rd July (2 weeks and 4 days ago)

Polticed his foot and gunk came out till the wednesday then nothing for 2 days and still very lame so took him to the vets on Friday 29th July where the nerve blocked and x-rayed his foot - Found nothing

Came home and was told to keep polticing nothing came out for 2 days but since then it has been disgusting for 10 days and still very lame - this differs between being ale to walk and not putting his foot down !!

vets suggest next an MRI (he is not insured for this)

so has anyone else politiced a foot for nearly 2 1/2 weeks or longer??? what was the outcome

There comes a point where poulticing the foot starts to become detrimental - and you do need to be careful about doing a hot poultice for more than a few days. Certainly the length of time you state seems excessive.

I would be getting the foot re-xrayed and see if anything can be seen now. You either have a deep seated infection, or worse.

Sounds awful - poor you and horse.

Sorry forgot to say since he has been back from the vets it was hot polticed for 2 dyas then dry polticed since then

We have had the foot xrayed already and showed nothing?

Sorry, I meant re-xrayed.

Is he on a strong course of antibiotics?

My mare had a nasty puncture wound to her hind which the farrier dug out and I than hot poulticed for a week, then cold poulticed for a further fortnight. Didn't get much better looking so called the vet - he xrayed - no pedal bone infection. So, I cold poulticed for a further week, then packed with iodine for a further fortnight until foot was toughenend up then shod.
