Ive reacently changed my mare to a hackamore when longreining (dont ride her yet) because of teeth problems, she was going better than she ever has done for a few days but im not sure whether shes ignoring it or im being too subtle when i ask her to stop/turn she just ignores me and carries on walking, its getting v.annoying and my arms really hurt!

Ideas?

Was she always like this, or did she listen at first when you asked to stop but now ignores it?

Has she ever been taught properly what it means and how it works? It's not the same as jumping straight from a bit, the aids are very different. It might need for someone to walk next to her a few times whilst you ask, and reinforce from her head what is wanted. Try in the school for a couple of short sessions, whoever is at her head rewarding when she stops when asked. Am sure she would soon get the idea.
