I was just about to throw a scoop of cooked mix into Ali's feed bucket this morning when I noticed this...

It's a piece of rock - I put a ruler next to it just to give you an idea of what size it is.

Gowla Cooked Mix - I've been feeding it since I bought Ali in June '07 and I've never had any problems before.

Eek, from experience (not with this company) when you call them they will want the details from the label / packaging for the feed esp, best before date and batch number so they can trace it back. They might also want you to send them the stone. Definitely give them a call.

Agree with Walrus. I used a dry dog food for my dog for years then got a 12" piece of metal in it. Contacted Company then sent it back. It must have come off their production/packaging equipment. But they would not accept it was their fault!!

Give them a call, Purina gave me a month's worth of free cat food when I found half a air gun pellet in some felix cat food!

You gotta wonder what they are putting in that stuff!

Its not a stone, its a rock! I would say something to them.

Definitely say something to them... I once found a smooth round bit of green glass about the size of a £2 coin in a herbal supplement. The company were mortified that something like that had got through their quality control procedures and grovelled until the cows came home

Shame the supplement didn't do anything to my pony because I had LOADS of the stuff!!

I would certainly email the company. Bianca found a bit of what I thought was rabbit in some Alfa-A with Oil - they classed it as 'fur and bone'. They were very good about it and gave me lots of vouchers. They siad they'd trace it back to the field and make sure it's checked more thoroughly. Whether they will do or not I don't know but they were very helpful.

I guess these things happen. Although Dengie said they had a machine which detected metal and stone.

Am I the only person that thinks most horses are smarter than to chew on and ingest a 3 inch rock?

I would be mad it was in my grain too but only because I had to pay for it. Horses nibble and sniff the earth daily with rocks all over and do not ingest them.

I have to agree with you here as I have known for years that you should put rocks in your horses' feed to stop them from eating too fast.

ETA the thing I would be p*ssed off about was the fact I was missing food to the weight of the rock

I think I may have had a bag from the same batch...this triggered something in my memory of finding an animal in my field and being told it had come from the field....I jsut hope it was dead before it was 'harvested'
