We live in the middle of nowhere and with all the snow that has fallen over the last few days we've noticed the odd set of prints here and there around the muck heap and yard. To cut a long story short, i looked out of my dining room window earlier this morning and saw this little scrap looking back at me:

What am i going to do with him??

He is extremely cute and very sweet, we've already got 3 dogs of our own and although we'd like to keep him and no doubt will do, we've no idea what to do with him in the short term...

He's already eyeing up my chinchilla who's sitting in his cage minding his own business...

Oooh also looking at him, what sort of breeding do you think he has?? I'm thinking Jack Russel x but looking at his colouring he may have Doberman/Rottweiler in him... Not sure... What d'you guys reckon??

We're going to get him down the vets in a bit to have him checked out and see if he's microchipped but im thinking that is unlikely as he hasn't been neutered etc...

Thanks for your replies guys, yep we will get in touch with all of those in a min, the likelihood he is missing is a bit more unlikely though as we are situated in the middle of no where. I suspect he has been dumped, poor little mite!

Yep, that'll be it Patches!! I've never had a mongrel, always had boxers and weimaraners so as soon as i saw the black and tan i thought of a rottie!!

He's sat on my lap at the moment, bless him!!

Aww, what a cutie. He looks in good condition. Lets hope he's just lost and he will be reunited with his owners. If he is entire then they can wander for miles after a bitch in season. Or, lets hope you get to keep him

By law you HAVE to report him to the council dog warden. He may have been dumped or he may be someone's beloved lost pet that has somehow escaped and they are looking for him

He will need to go to the pound for 7 days so his owners can claim him. You can take him in after that if you wanted. If you didn't want him to go to the pound you still need to report to the dog warden but you will need to keep him for 28 days before he is 'yours' and even then I think if the owner turned up you may have to hand him over.

There are tales of dogs missing for weeks that have travelled miles before being re-united - please don't assume he has been dumped

We reported him to the local dog warden straight away and we have taken him to the vets at lunchtime to be checked over and to find out whether he has a microchip or not. He was a bit aggressive towards the other dogs in the surgery which worried me slightly as i have 3 dogs of my own who can be shall we say boisterous most of the time.

Since we've been back, the dog warden has called with a number of someone who has lost there dog. My mum is just talking to him now and he fits the description exactly. Yay!! Its amazing though, im based in Lincoln and this other chap is from Gainsborough which is a number of miles away...

Ive just found out his name is Reggie and he is coming to collect him in the next hour!!! Im really pleased for the little chap as he's a little smasher!!!

Fingers crossed it is his dog, how long has he been missing then? It'll be a lovely end to the story if it is, please keep us informed

Sounds like a happy ending. Well done you for taking the time and trouble to make sure he is reunited with his owner. Hopefully he will get him tagged and chipped now.

He's been missing since Saturday, i imagine he's been stolen and then dumped here as he would have had to crossed several very busy main roads to get to us. Im sure it is his dog, he described thst he had a missing front tooth, he is undershot and described his other features perfectly.

I'll let you all know how we get on, when he's been to see him....

Thanks everyone, the gentleman has just been to pick Reggie up and everything went very well.. Apparently Reggies mother was stolen just before christmas too. Reggie is a lakeland x patterdale terrier, so at least we know what he is now. They couldn't thank us enough and have offered us a 15 week old half brother to Reggie as way of saying thank you... Hmm... Decisions decisions....

Reggies owner wondered whether the people who took him also took his mother, thats the trouble these days they're all nicked to order. They would have probably noticed that little Reggie was a bit aggressive towards other dogs and dumped him here. Very sad though..

So glad there has been a happy ending. Lets hope they get him microchipped now, I think having the mother stolen would have made me get this done pretty sharpish

Bring him to the vet to see if he has a chip. Also report him in case owner has put a lost notice out.

For safety sake I would keep him away from the small furries as you do not know his background. He could also pass something on to your own dogs.
