Look what my clever husbo did (just learnt how to post pics!)

Sorry Billie taking out some grumpiness. Had a visitor to a show dismiss husband's work as manipulated photos the other day. Sadly there are people trying to pass off digital images as art, and that is very depressing.

If your husband never sells images fair enough but often people post images on here as amateurs but in reality are selling work on the side undercutting professionals and getting away with covert advertising in places like this (I'm sure other businesses have the same issues, dealers and livery yards certainly do on here).

Anyway sorry for taking out my grumpy mood on your thread and well done for posting a photo ;)

No problem. I can understand your frustration. If I am completely honest he has taken money for one that he did, but that started out as a favour and then ended up being paid because they were so pleased with it. He could only count that as his only 'commissioned' and paid piece..... Ever! He didn't set out to get that work. I just think he is quite good at it and the Olive photo is stunning!

Now I realise that I have given meat to your 'advertising' bone but would rather be completely honest. He does not do this for money and he does not advertise therefore I didn't see any harm in posting but I do feel bad now. Should I get this deleted?

I have to be honest Kat, you've right shat on my Strawberries tonight .... :(

I'm sure it won't be long before 'someone' button pushes!

Going to ask for it to be removed myself, can't be doing with the crit!

What a lovely thing for him to do! My OH's dad is a painter in his retirement and he did a canvas for me (he usually likes to paint spitfires, boats and semi naked ladies, lol bless my future father in law) I didn't have a horse at the time and was into welsh cobs so it is one of those cantering on a beach. Bless him I was so touched as have never had anything like that done just for me before!

Kat it is pretty ignorant of someone to dismiss work as digitally made, it is easy to tell it isn't if you look closely at an original, disheartening but a credit to your OH's skill really!

Ha! Oooohhh, I'll look into a gizmo!

Every thread on here seems to turn sour because of one person's doom. I feel for their doom but don't make it mine!? You get me?

I actually feel quite bad for you Billie! I don't see anything underhand in your post just that you were pleased with a gift your OH made you and wanted to share with everyone. Don't get the thread deleted most members will see it for what it is and feel pleased for you.

I think your OH has done an amazing job! its a brilliant picture :-)

Aye I don't know why this happened here tho. To be perfectly honest I'd be far more likely to not believe it could possibly be done on a computer, than to the other way round. I had no idea.

He also did this for someone from three old photos! Look how stunning that top horse is, doesn't even seem real!

Billie your picture is exquisite, you are very lucky with both your horse and hubby x

Does your husband have a website? I really want a picture of ebony and one of ben, or perhaps one of them together... Ive narrowed down to two artists but looking at these pics on this thread I would be interested in seeing some more of his work before I make a decision x

QB - hasn't read the whole thread ;)
Digital art QB but no website and no sale (or Kat will have a coronary) but thank you for liking it :) x

my husband is a personal trainer... And as a man with a fat wife he doesn't encourage me to advertise his business :)

You have such a way with words! That made me laugh so hard I had to put my Jaffa Cake down and everything :D

Love the pic, it looks awesome and obviously took some time

Personally I dont think that digital picture manipulation no matter how excellent will ever replace someone with a pencil and incredible talent so I dont really get the negativity - its obviously a sore point but in this particular situation Billie's hubby is hardly out there taking business away from artists is he?

*starts sobbing*

wow! it looks just like a top class portrait... fab bit of work! Well, if there is a change of mind on selling such works... PM me, I would still be interested, digital art or painting, it is lovely work :D

I think it's a lovely present :)

I do understand Kat's point, but ultimately, if he doesn't sell them, it's no worse than the likes of vallin posting her lovely non-pro event photos or FB posting dressage ones etc (and it would be a crime if they were stopped as I love their pics). And yes, digital images aren't nearly as time consuming as traditional art - it would be a bit of a regression if computers didn't make it quicker and more efficient :p I love Kat's husband's portraits.

But I also think these are pretty cool :D
