Hi all,
I have taken on a new private yard this week and currently have on an 11.2hh 5 yrs welsh sec a gelding and a 13.2hh 14 yrs part-arab x welsh mare - they went out together for the first time today and got on great. I am currently using a neighbours 11 acre field (until our own is ready) which already has two mares and a foal in. They original 3 did not get on with the 11.2 but my 13.2 kept away from them and after re-catching the 11.2 and taking him over to my mare - they were then fine and kept away from the other 3. Once my own field is ready it will be approx 2 acres and stands on the opposite side of the driveway to the 11 acre field.
I am due to recieve a TB colt next week - is is about 1 yrs old and will be a racehorse - he is due to go to his trainer in October but until then will be in my care.
Th question really is what is the best way to turn out this colt?? My thoughts were to turn him out with the 11.2 for half the day and then bring him in and put my 13.2 out for the other half with the 11.2 but am obviously worried about the mares across the drive!
Any advice would be much appreciated
Many Thanks
Rachel

As i understand They are able to 'knock up' girl horses from about 24 months Don't quote me, i just know of a horse doing this (He is now 16 and has 3 beautiful 14 year old daughters and a son from his winter out with the riding school horses lol)
If behaviorally he isn't a problem then 'he isn't a problem'
I have rarely seen anything under three really express that stallion behavior, i leave my colts out together and have them out as stallions when they grow up! boy horses are only ever a problem when they are treated that way (As is the norm here in england unfortunately)
Im sure you will be fine.
