Looking at horse this week...Any thoughts on him?!

No offence meant to prospective purchaser or the vendor, but I have seen and tried a lot of these irish imports, bought one and was a cracker. They are green and they do change when they come out of the dealers yards.

Good luck, if he is the one for you, put the very best vet in you can.

Agree with waffles- lots of Irish horses don't do picking up feet or tying up or loading very well- so this not being in advert would worry me to.

That's funny, all three of my horses were Irish imports.

My first pony was the sweetest little 14.2 Irish Crossbreed, he was truly the definition of bomb proof and was so safe that as a 14 year old I hunted him in nothing but a snaffle bridle, not even a martingale or anything! You could do anything with him and I never, ever had a problem with him.

My second was a 17.2 bred to the hilt Irish Sports Horse from the King of Diamonds bloodline, he had a pretty tricky temperament when it came to riding however I knew that before I bought him. Whilst he was a tricky ride he was a dream to work with on the ground, he loaded himself, stood for hours being shod/groomed etc. and didn't even be tied up to have a full clip!! I could clip his face, ears and everything with him just stood in his stable- and when I got him he was freshly imported from Belgium (after being imported there from Ireland!)

My third and current is another Irish X, admittedly he was a tad difficult at first when it came to being shod, and still has to be sedated whilst being clipped however that is purely because he wasn't handled much before I bought him as a 5 year old, he pretty much just lived out in a field for the most part. Yet he has always had manners to burn, he loads and has the dentist without a problem and is a really sweet natured little man.

All of these horses tied up, loaded and had their feet picked up without a problem.
The last two were from two separate dealers.

All three were bred in Ireland and imported as youngsters.

Gutted, He sold him yesterday! I actually cried! I told him I didn't want to miss him and could come when ever he wanted and wanted to be the first to see him and he ticked all our boxes. He said leave it till Weds because the snows only just cleared up and was still icy and to phone him Tuesday to arrange. I phoned and no answer so left a message, called back again yesterday afternoon and he said someone came in the morning and brought him subject to vetting!

Gutted! I'm sure he's going to make someone a cracking horse! Thank you for all your comments & thoughts!

And the search continues......

What's for you won't go by you. Plenty just as nice as him still to come.
Please don't buy him if he fails the vet, though i doubt you'd be told he failed, the buyer would be blamed for backing out/not having the money etc, so be careful.

Oh, and it is true that Irish horses can be retarded at the basic things, even getting on, the wee irish lads just leap aboard and kick on, try mounting fron a block or worse still the ground and you will have problems before you even get up.

Speaking from experience ;)

Nicely presented by a capable rider, I think i heard him clatter the poles in the vid,
well overpriced, don't be blinded by the prettiness of the horse or the lovely irish accent of the vendor.

I wonder how long it took to get the 22second video?

Do you have someone to go with you to view/video you riding etc?

I must admit I wondered the point of putting on that video, its short, and he did clatter the poles. I wonder why that's all they could get to put on.

Since I live in Ireland, can assure you that the majority of Irish horses are sane and easy going.
Many HHOers have Irish horses and no problems.

I doubt many people could leap aboard my beastie, since he is 17h ;)

Sorry to here that he's been sold OP! :)
