No offence meant to prospective purchaser or the vendor, but I have seen and tried a lot of these irish imports, bought one and was a cracker. They are green and they do change when they come out of the dealers yards.
Good luck, if he is the one for you, put the very best vet in you can.
Agree with waffles- lots of Irish horses don't do picking up feet or tying up or loading very well- so this not being in advert would worry me to.
That's funny, all three of my horses were Irish imports.
My first pony was the sweetest little 14.2 Irish Crossbreed, he was truly the definition of bomb proof and was so safe that as a 14 year old I hunted him in nothing but a snaffle bridle, not even a martingale or anything! You could do anything with him and I never, ever had a problem with him.
My second was a 17.2 bred to the hilt Irish Sports Horse from the King of Diamonds bloodline, he had a pretty tricky temperament when it came to riding however I knew that before I bought him. Whilst he was a tricky ride he was a dream to work with on the ground, he loaded himself, stood for hours being shod/groomed etc. and didn't even be tied up to have a full clip!! I could clip his face, ears and everything with him just stood in his stable- and when I got him he was freshly imported from Belgium (after being imported there from Ireland!)
My third and current is another Irish X, admittedly he was a tad difficult at first when it came to being shod, and still has to be sedated whilst being clipped however that is purely because he wasn't handled much before I bought him as a 5 year old, he pretty much just lived out in a field for the most part. Yet he has always had manners to burn, he loads and has the dentist without a problem and is a really sweet natured little man.
All of these horses tied up, loaded and had their feet picked up without a problem.
The last two were from two separate dealers.
All three were bred in Ireland and imported as youngsters.
