I have the ordnance survey app on my phone but really struggle to check it one handed. Any advice? We have some new hacking to explore and I need to not be out nearly three hours every time cos we got lost!

I've got the OS App as well, but I never managed to use it on my phone whilst riding, like you I tried but it was a no go tbh.

As per Teapot, I took a screenshot of the area, then printed it out and slipped it into one of the punched clear plastic wallets. They're nice and thin so you can fold it to put it on your pocket.

Btw, ref taking screenshots of OS, if you don't have the OS App on your PC/laptop, if you go onto Bing Maps instead of Google Maps, you can select different views, one being the OS maps then you can take your screenshot from that.

Would do if I had a printer.

I use the "Outdoor active" app. It has Ordnance Survey maps in the subscription (called topo) but the website and app feels more mature to me and I find the routing functionality easier. I can plot a route on the website before I hack and it'll sync with the app. Sometimes I'll walk the route in advance and then you can trace that track when you plot a route for a future hack. If you're following a route you can easily glance at the phone one handed to make sure you're on track.

I really struggle with the OS app, not because I can't use it one handed but because the flipping thing is so buggy and glitchy, and sometimes just won't load at all. (Don''t get me started or I'll be here until lunchtime)

I use front saddlebags and shove the paper map into those. Or if it's drizzly, I have a mapcase round my shoulder and under my arm.

[Additionally - I use Chrome browser on an iphone - and when I go to Bing I don't have the OS option available - it's just Road or Aerial. Is this just a limitation of Bing on a phone? Or do I need to be logged in....or something?]

I use Outdoor Active as well.

You can plot it in advance and then it tracks you in real time, which is very helpful.

It is a subscription service. But I use it quite a lot to find new dog walks as well rides.

Hi, I've just checked on my Android phone using the Chrome browser, and I'm afraid it's the same as for you - no OS layer available on the map. I use that feature on our Windows PC as it's connected to the printer, so hadn't noticed that it's not available on the mobile version of Bing, sorry! ?
