We sadly lost our flatcoat retriever last month and both me and our new puppy are missing him desperately. I would love to give a home to a flatcoat that needs rehoming - if anyone knows of one or hears of anything please could you pm me? many thanks :-)

Sorry to hear that :( I have 2 flatcoats, they're just lovely dogs.

There's the 'official' breed rescue, and the independent one, and also Black Retriever X Rescue if you'd happy with a flattie lookalike :) (their FB page is mor up to date than their website).

Go to the breed clubs as I have a memory of someone on facebook recently being let down with a litter on the ground - fully health tested as they were commenting on puppy farmers being able to sell untested & crossbreed puppies.

Flatcoat rescue and rehoming is a fab service. Fully confidential. Run by Brian and Jane jones of benvellyn kennels. Please contact them.

Black retriever x if you decide against the main breed rescue.

Personally I would prefer a fully health tested puppy that I could check longevity of parents etc. or a cross to save heart break later.

Best if luck and sorry for your loss x

Thanks for your suggestions - I have registered with the flatcoat rescue so fingers crossed and satinbaze I will contact the people you mention.

Thanks all for your help xx

Thankfully Flatcoat rescue has far more people on a waiting list than dogs available , not good for you but last year they had 200 people and rehomed about 40 dogs.

If you want pointing in the direction of a good breeder pm me and I will be happy to help.

If you Google "Planet Gundog" you'll see that someone has a litter of pups. It seems that the breeders own both the dog and the bitch, which would concern me a little, neither parent works, though they're from working stock, apparently, and, they're £700 each!

Alec.

Price doesn't surprise me Alec... GSP pups are usually around £800+ at the moment. (That is of course from responsibly bred health tested parents)
