Looking for a new chaff

I have quite a lot of criteria to fill out. They are currently on hi fi molasses free but one of mine not eating it anymore. My two are very different horses (11hh welshy and 15.2 stressy tb). Ideally I want them on the same chaff as we have limited storage at our livery.
It needs to be:
Low cal
Molasses free
Low sugar
Alfalfa free
Natural as possible ie no mould inhibitors
No straw (they eat their beds as it is!!)

so do you see my issue, there’s a long list of criteria!! At this rate I might aswell make my own chaff im so picky! I was thinking of something like dengie pure grass but I think it’s very naturally sweet ( not good for fizzy tb and not good for laminitic!)

and don’t worry the tb is getting her calories elsewhere for those wondering why I want her on such a low cal chaff. I want the chaff as straightforward as possible just as something to make her chew her feed and as something for the little one to get meds and supplements in.
Thanks in advanced everyone!

The hifi has alfalfa in it did you know?

I feed graze on grass chaff or the emerald grass tastic and have just bought the dengie just grass which they are not as keen on, I don't think the grass chaff is that high in sugar unless you feed buckets of it, a small amount will be fine.

yes, and they’ve always been on alfalfa before but it’s the only thing left in my tb diet that could be making her dizzy so thought best to get her off it. She’s not on nuts or anything, just fibres and fats. So I guess it must be the alfalfa, providing its a feeding issue!

and I just found out about the straw in it hence the sudden urge for a change!! It just feels like such a waste of money!!

Thunderbrooks? Although it does not seem to have a good rep on here for some reason I think it meets your needs?
I looked into that one and tried a bit from a friend. One liked it but the tb wasn’t so keen. I wonder if I add mint or something? Between the two of them they manage to be quite picky! Do you know why it doesn’t have a good rep, I couldn’t find any reason why

yes i think the alfalfa is making her fizzy. Not to mention I don’t think penny likes the taste! Defo not fulfilling my criteria at the mo! I have a bag of dengie pure grass that I was giving as a token feed for when they come in. Hard to tell if it’s making her fizzy. Surely no different to summer grazing, but in lower quantities?

The Agrobs one I'm currently feeding is the Grunhafer - Green Oat Grass. It's the whole plant but before the oats ripen so low starch. Nothing added to it but very palatable. It's fairly expensive but the bag fills 2 bins so goes a long way.

I’ve been feeding this for over a year and am very pleased with it. I do add mint as well.
I think some people have had issues with the producers being rude or pushy in the past.

No I do not know why to be honest, just saw some posts on here when I was looking for a new feed that were less than complementary about Thunderbrooks, I have seen them on trade stands before and their staff are not the most helpful but not sure if there is more to it.

Mine wouldnt eat green oat chaff so threw away a bag of agrobs green oat. It is very very expensive to feed too and didnt help the pooey one it was bought for
Have you tried Max gut health heard good reports about horses calming down and being less sensitive while on it

I have Arabs and alfalfa sends them nuts I have just started feeding the pure feeds easy and they seem to love it, one of mine decided he didn't like pink mash anymore or sugar beet after eating it for years, so had to try something else and so far it's a success.

Just looked it up, has quite a low starch %, one to consider! Thank you

Guess it varies by horses. It's the only plain chaff my picky tb will eat, he'll also eat the musli but that does have lots of extras added so I don't count it as plain. He is a very sensitive stressy horse and prone to lose weight.

I found once I opened and binned it it expanded so much it lasted for ages. A bag lasts me a month at least.

That’s exactly my issue. Mine are so picky and get bored very easily! One min they like something and the next they won’t touch it ! Frustrating!!

Interesting, my mare is totally turning her nose up at her pink mash too, and is also intolerant of Alfalfa, so I might give this a try, thank you!

It was weird as he loved it then just wouldn't touch it so I tried sugar beet which his always eaten wouldn't touch that either, the only thing I can put it down to is I changed my hay and it is much nicer quality maybe he just wanted the hay, I have been feeding the pure feed for about 4 weeks now I just dampen it so the pellets break down a bit, they do a fibre type feed which I might switch to for summer but it looks really nice and both horses are loving it.
