I sold my ex-racer a couple of months ago only because he had a weak back and I was getting too heavy for him at 10.5 stone. I started jumping him and he really loved it! His new owner who is much lighter is having a great time with him and he looks really happy!
I have put up a couple of ads on various sites asking for a long term full loan or LWVTB which is how I got my ex-racer. I have really good references, a stable at a 5* livery yard with 4 large bales of top quality hay and aprox. 50 bags bedding, great trainers and because the people there are so nice I don't want to move. I would want to insure the horse and have a contract.
My ex-racer was usually sane but then would have the odd tb moment e.g. small rear followed by a spin when worried and the odd small buck when pleased with himself never anything malicious, so I am not a novice but I don't feel experienced enough to take on something that is very green either.
I have had 4 responses and tried 3 the other was too far away. The 1st one napped and reared on a road that wasn't busy but there was a queue of cars both ways by the time I had managed to get him to go forward. Then the teacher accompanying me on a pony said that he had done the same with his previous trier who had leapt off and lead him back. Why did she not tell me that before I got on him?
The second one decided to start bucking when we were returning home and only 400 yards away. His owner said that he likes to rush home a bit and it was because I wouldn't let him trot and canter home. I was taught never to let a horse rush home and we were on a verge next to a fairly busy road that time. The 3rd one was not honestly described so I turned round and went home.
I'm not after a grand prix horse I just want one that has a sensible attitude enjoys lots of variety e.g. hacking, fun rides, schooling trecs and some small jumps as I am not young anymore.
Where else can I look?
