Hi all,

My daughter is 7 and has been riding for about a year, we currently got a real old school matser who has brought her on really well up to now but now we need something a little more forward going. She currently jumping 2ft 3 with ease.

I have seen these 3 just wondered what your view is on these and what sorts of questions i should be asking. Thanks in advanced.

they are all lovely!! I do love a chestnut gelding though and he looks more like a lively schoolmaster type which might be suitable for your daughter.
I think they would all be good contenders to go and try, the only reservation I would have is the second mare, as if she is not being regularly ridden would she be sharp when she is fully fit and also would she need sedation for clipping, you may not want her to be clipped but on a re-sale value it would help.

All the 3 ponies look super .... Personally I don't know why but the second draws me in , Could do with better photos but they would all be worth trying .

Take your daughter and go and see them , you will know if she is able to ride them and see who she gels with .

Good luck x

I like pony number 1 but think it is a little overpriced although it is certainly a been there done it type who sounds possibly ideal on paper.
Pony number 2 strikes me as maybe a pony who would suit someone who is very confident as she sounds very forward going and looking at the picture of her with a bigger rider makes me wonder if she would be more suited to an older child
pony number 3 looks a very nice sort and more reasonably priced than the other 2.

if you do go to visit make sure you ask lots of questions, see the pony doing everything you expect it to do with your daughter, ask if it has any vices, has ever been sick or lame, suffered laminitis and most important if you want to go to shows whether it is good to load and travel.

No 1 - just a tad pricey.

You want to see it do as much as possible. Look out to see if there is water/food in the stable. IF not be a bit suspsious re sedation etc (worse case - and as its a childs pony probably not) see how it is tied in the yard etc. My pony is a dreadful fidget and at thier size its a pain and not safe for the kids. How is it to be bathed? Most kids I've come across love getting involved in this for the shows and its a nightmare if the ponies don't love it so much...

Good luck, one very lucky daughter!

I think they are all definately worth a look. You need to go with a very open mind because these ponies arn't always what they first seem! I have recently found a pony for my daughter and therefore have done that very time consuming search that you are doing now. It's amazing what you see in the advert and hear on the phone then when you actually get there to see this ideal pony it's not quite as described! Thats why I think that they all need looking at. I have noticed that they have all got quite large children riding them and that is fine but sometimes these little ponies quickly realise that they have got a little person on top! I would also say if the pony you see is what you might call too quiet that might be the one. As by the sound of it your daughter is a good, confident little rider, but is only 7 so doesn't need to have here confidence ruined. If you've got a pony that you know is capable of going up a gear but will wait until your daughter is ready to do that next step. Too be honest it's a total lottery and it is a case of having lady luck on your side. You will get a good one but it might take time. If you are wanting to sell or loan your other pony pm me as I am now having to go through it all again for my other daughter!! Good luck.

Not sure where your are located as the ads you are considering are the length of the country. If you are East Anglia way let me know as I have a super little forward going schoolmistress that I havent advertised yet.
