Hi there

I'm looking to find a new yard offering full livery, and would be very happy to find somewhere through recommendation if at all possible.

I've been at my current yard for nearly 10 years, but sadly it's not as good as it was, and so I feel that for the sake of my horse I need to find somewhere else, either St Albans/Harpenden way, or somewhere around the Chess Valley area (Chipperfield/Sarrat/Chenies/Berkhamstead).Ideally somewhere with good staff, good hacking, regular turnout in small groups),a school with a decent surface, and friendly folk to do horsey stuff with .

Please feel free to PM me with suggestions - good or bad !

Thanks for that - Rose Hall is an option, Patchetts I think may be more competition minded than I'm looking for , I've not come across the farm at Potten so that may be worth a look ....

I am at rose hall. Very happy there, liveries all well looked after, not b*tchy everyone very friendly. Hacking great, outdoor floodlit school, turnout ok - regular, small groups.

Will check out Wild Farm, is that Keith Shore's place?Hacking maybe not so good there but facilities look good ..

Does anyone know the Holt in Kimpton at all?Someone was talking about it today....also Hill Farm near Radlett?
 
Looks nice on website but suspect we may be a bit scruffy!....In another life with more time I'd love to do more with dressage but for now we do hacking, schooling, sponsored rides and cross country, so somewhere with people doin those sorts of things would be perfect.I know it's hard to find the perfect yard, but if I can find somewhere with 80% of those things than that would be perfect.Hamish., Goffs Oak looks lovely but a bit too far sadly....
 
I'm a new livery at Wild Farm and it is lovely. The horses are very well looked after and staff and other liveries all very friendly. I wish I had moved there ages ago!
 
Its good to hear such great feedback about a place !But on their site they talk a lot about dressage and bringing on young horses,whereas my mare is 17 and does a decent prelim, we're not really all that polished if I'm honest!So I wonder if somewhere with more of an "allrounder" feel would be more the right sort of thing. . . .

ies are good but depends on your budget.

Also rode at rose hall years ago..hmm i wont say too much as by looks of it has changed now and it was years and years ago but i remember the knee high mud..everywhere and little shetlands nipping you, good old days!

There is a livery yard at the edge of berkhamsted called Northchurch livery, not sure on prices.
 
I have had quite a few friends pass through potten farm sonic you want some info pm me! I'm on a diy yard though so can't really help. Patchetts is nice but there is not much turnout and it is professional, all the liveries look very proper and well turned out, a bit like their horses!
 
Thanks Sarah_horsey, will check out the Berkhamstead one as well then.Patchetts is very professional looking but there's not that much good hacking near them, so probably not for me , though it's good place to go to compete definitely!Have looked at Chiltern Thames classified, but in my experience often the best yards don't advertise, hence my original posting....

It wouldn't be my first choice for livery personally as it's a bit big and busy but not for that reason. We are a 20 minute hack from Patchetts and there is loads of accessible hacking round there check out this site for hacks in that bit of Herts

Hill farm is lovely but as far as I know currently full with a waiting list, never hurts to call though. Near there are also Netherwylde, little Munden, Smug Oak (think DIY only?).

I'm at Model/Blackbird farm but last I heard the waiting list was huge.

I love the look of it: keep bumping into people in jods in the Plough pub and then seeing them in Whippendell woods: I am sorry about the puppies barking!

I hear it's fab. It is dressage focussed but nice, a lad who used to lead me round when I was first learning to ride is there and he loves it. YO is v good, I hear.

Hacking's quite good, I think, used to be on Fruit Farm down the road. There's the watermeadows and the airfield-still a bit of a trek but worth it.

Blackbirds has 36 on the waiting list: I saw Ginny a wee while back (she used to be on my yard). Shame, cos I really liked it and I want to steal her horse!

Netherwylde is hugely expensive and posh!

Munden's is fab but full livery only, amazing hacking, though. Smug Oak is DIY only and I have been told that it's v unfriendly-no idea, never been.

Thanks,that's all really helpful!Netherwylde is lovely but I haven't won the lottery recently so that's not going to happen , Munden I know but had heard there were only two hacks really, so interesting to hear that the hacking is good.

Where are Model farm and Blackbirds by the way??

You've probably bumped into me in there!! I should have added that another good thing about Rose Hall is the pubs in the area :)

All the yards I mentioned in my post back onto the same bridlepath network and on a nice day we bump into people from other yards. Most if not all have riding on their own land too.

Model farm and Blackbirds farm are in Aldenham/Highcross, they belong and are run by the same people.

Ah, that's quite a handy area for me, but if there is along waiting list then maybe not so practical at the moment.So I think I'll look at :

Little Munden
Rose Hall Farm
Hill Farm (near Radlett)
Woodside (near WildHill)
Potten

Also - is Grove farm still running at Pipers Lane in Harpenden?Might look at The Holt in Kimpton as well , and Puddephats at Markyate.I can see a few long days ahead but its work it to find the right place for my horse

We have vacancies at our yard, its a private yard with only 2 horses and a pony near berkhamsted with hacking around ashridge. Barely have to touch the roads.

i got a little bit excited when i saw the post title.....then i realised that it is an old post!
