Does anyone have any 'go to' websites for wanted ads?

Im looking for a competant rider to excercise my horses as my work schedule goes mental over the summer.
Im not asking for money - maybe a bit of mucking out in return for riding but im already stressing about the type of people who may reply!

There might be a chance to compete one horse at bsja also - do i include that in the ad or leave that out until im happy they are the right person?

Help!

I can put a few ads up at the vet school if you like and/or email round if you want to draft something. There might well be someone that would like to help you out :)

2 of.... quite a few ;) lol.

Just thought as tends to be quite good for horsey peeps with nothing to ride and plenty stay over the summer

^^ was going to be my suggestion of where to advertise! Claire has had a few decent 'helpers' from langford.

You want them to exercise your horses and muck out for you? If I wanted someone to exercise my horses I would probably have to pay them, I certainly would not be able to find someone to do both for nothing, but no harm in trying I guess.:)

she's only jealous vizzy cos she didnt think of it :p

jeeve, yes there are people, I have done it in the past and I have a friend, unfortunately not nearby who has jumped her own mare to fox but she no longer has her and would jump at the chance to have nice horses to ride and jump :)

A lot of people can no longer afford horses of their own - it may be a perfect situation for someone that can no longer have their own horse -doubly so if they wish to compete.

My summer schedule can be so manic that the person could very well be able to ride every day of the week if they wish.

I'd pop in the ad about "opportunity to compete BSJA with the right rider", gives an idea of the kind of person you are lookign for. And the arrangement you're looking for is a 'competent sharer' rather than someone to exercise. Generally.... For exercising you pay them (and expect rider to be able to devise and ride exercise plan). For sharing they pay you or do chores (and you usually specify how often horse should be schooled/jumped/hacked etc if you care.)

Have a look on preloved at ads near to you in the horse section. I found my sharer in there and best you can pick who you want rather than fending off unsuitable responders. There were loads on there when I looked, all people wanting horses to ride, of varying abilities.

Shame you're not nearer - my horse is injured, and my other ride has just been sold so nothing to compete this summer – I'd jump (no pun intended!) at an opportunity like this... Good luck, hope you find someone good. x

Wish I was a little closer - I have been advertising 'Free Help' and not had one call!

This is what I have said - do I sound like a nut job?

Help offered in the Bridgwater Area - I'm looking to help someone with their horses/ponies for FREE/possible DIY livery in exchange?. I am an experienced fit lady who has owned horses for over 30 years, unfortunately had to give up due to finances. I have done just about everything including BSJA, eventing, showing and carriage driving (HDT).
I would love to help someone so I keep in contact with horses.

?????

I was looking for someone to exercise my daughters 14.1hh pony. I didn't want to have to pay and didn't want any yard duties doing, just literally hacking out.

At first, I advertised on Nfed but got no responses and, then I decided to put him on Freecycle!!!!:p I got loads of replies! All were suitable but I chose a girl who used to own her own horse but was now not able to afford to. She is used to spooky horses etc and confident and she has been riding out for me twice a week. :)

Where abouts in Somerset are you?

I put an ad on preloved saying i wanted a horse to ride due to having a retired oldie meaning i cant afford to buy/livery another. Within 12hours i had a call and am now riding a gorgeous horse! So i definately say look on there!

I get confused by the whole are you a sharer or an exerciser thing.

I have been very lucky I had a horse to ride for 3 months who was a babe and his owner was at a point in life where she had no time and no buzz its all fine now so I dont get to ride him anymore but it gave her breathing space so she didnt sell him.

Now I have a horse to ride that isnt as much fun but belongs to my mate who is currently on holiday and wants her less fat and fitter so its giving her a break (horse has had to take a back seat while her Mum has been ill). She'll be back in June so I am hoping that someone else will need a helping hand as I am early retired so time rich and cash poor it also means I can do exercising in the week.

I can imagine it from both sides when I had my own I was desperate for someone reliable to ride when I went on hols but then letting just anybody get on your precious animal is also quite daunting.

I'm sitting on my hands here.....

Given how 'horsey' the area is, I would have thought you would have riders queuing at the gate. I am sure someone would be only too please to do a bit of mucking out in exchange for riding.

Course she will - if they are nice horses [which they sound like they are!] and there's the opportunity to compete, there will be plenty of people who don't have the time or money to commit to their own horse at the moment, but would appreciate the opportunity to ride.

OP - I've found New Rider very good in the past but not sure if the classifieds are still down?
