So, we’ve bought a horse, but can’t ride her because she’s in foal. She will (hopefully!) be perfect for my 11-year-old daughter in time (and for myself,I hope!). Her share pony is a Shetland and very strong willed, and sadly now outgrown. The owner hasn’t said anything yet but I can see she’s just too tall and heavy for him (he’s coping fine, his back is great etc but it’s becoming fairly obvious).

I’m reluctant to go back to the riding school as she prefers hacking and prices are insane. We are trying to scale back on costs so a full loan wouldn’t work.

Where can I look for a happy hacker type share pony in the Edinburgh area? Bonus if I could jump on too, as I’m probably giving up riding my share horse (see other thread). We love little adventures in the hills, anything more than that is a bonus. I’ve asked at our yard before but nobody offered anything. I would love for my daughter to continue riding instead of having close to a year off before our mare is back in work. The yard where our mare lives doesn’t have anything either.

If anyone has any ideas of how to go about it or even has a pony that would t mind an extra rider once a week or so please let me know. We are experienced sharers and do all yard jobs as required and happy to contribute financially too. My daughter is a gentle and confident rider.

I'd have a look on any FB groups, there are lots that are for people to put up horses they have for share/people looking for shares. Also feed/tack shops as often it's a matter of everyone knows everyone!

There's usually quite a lot of people looking for sharers to hack their horses a couple times a week
