Looking for a small dog

Sadly my mother-in-law's old Border terrier was PTS this morning. She still has a 2 year old Border and wants to get another dog. She is looking for a smller bitch, breed not important, age not important. I have been looking at the animal rescue sites but do worry that as she is 77 they may say no. We shall see, but in the meantime if any of you know of a smaller bitch looking for a home, not a million miles from Essex, that would be great.

there is a liitle one at the mayhew(London) called sweetie and she looks lovely but is 11...also a couple of jack russells on dogs blog

How sad, its still worth trying rescues despite age. I did a homecheck for a 75yr old who wanted to adopt a lurcher & admittedly i found that rescue contact was a bit assuming that she'd probably need an old ploddy dog, whereas lady was more active than I am in my 30's.

Thanks all. I think 11 is older than she would want, she really wants a not a puppy but not old. Her remaining border is a 2year old working type, very high energy and mad as a box of frogs but very obedient after a lot of work.
