Anyone know of a top farrier in Edinburgh that would take on a new client. Seems to be a major problem finding one here unless you are on a yard. The one we use just now comes when he has nothing else on and its not regular plus he often cancels at the last minute if a better offer comes along which is awful for my mare as she needs her feet properly balanced otherwise it causes her more lameness problems. Any help much appreciated

I'm sorry I'm the other end of the country, but I think you have asked this question before so I appreciate what a problem it is. Have you considered transporting your horse to the farrier, or a yard where he does regular work, rather than the other way around? Obviously you need to hear of one that comes well recommended first.

I drove my horse to alastair duff at the dick vet 3 hours each way for best part of 9 motnhs til I moved and got a decent farrier. Yes it cost a fortune, and yes it is excessive but it meant my horse was shod well and sound! I am not prepared to compromise on the quality of the work on my horses feet. I used to use jason cunningham when i actually lived in edinburgh but he moved back up to the Highlands last year so not much help for you. Have you tried searching the farriers reg council site - it is an AWCF you would really want for remedial work (or a FWCF - the highest one!)
http://www.farrier-reg.gov.uk/ and search under postcode EH gives you the most options.

Unfortunately there is a lack of decent farriers in scotland and it is therefore necessary to go to the farrier rather than expect them to come to you.
