I'm shortly going to be moving to Chertsey/Addlestone and need to find a yard for my horse and am looking for suggestions please, if anyone can help?

An arena with a good surface is a must as he is a dressage horse. He also needs daily turnout, with decent fencing in fairly small single-sex groups.

Ideally I'd love a small amount of off-road hacking as we are not going on roads for now (I've only had him since January and he is sharp), not essential as I can box to hacking, but even a field or a short track would be nice.

Can be DIY assisted (ie. including turn out and bring in) or part (including muck out or skip out). I need competent sympathetic staff as, although he is excellent to handle, he could become difficult in the wrong hands.

Everywhere I have found so far looks very expensive! He's in Herts within the M25 now so it's not like that is particularly cheap either, so I'm quite surprised. I want to spend up to £400pcm including hay and straw ideally.

Does anyone have any ideas? So far I have had Langshot EC suggested. Thanks in advance for any help!

I was looking for similar to you at the beginning of the year although I wanted extensive hacking too (I live a couple of miles from Addlestone).

Have to say that I ended up having to compromise so the horse definitely has all he needs and I've got most of what I wanted.

From when I was looking part livery in the area started from just under £500 for a basic part livery and the sky was the limit for the top end, some of the prices I was quoted made my eyes water (£700-800)!

Places that might be worth contacting on the diy side
Pannels farm chertsey - not sure if they do assisted or not, definitely DIY and have a good length hacking track around the farm. They have lots of land although only ever seen them in large group turnout but maybe they have other options too.

Holly Bush Stables in Byfleet - DIY, assisted , part, full. School is just sand though not mixed with rubber, yard is on the edge of the M25 so there is constant road noise but turnout is paired and it was a nice yard. There's a few minutes road work (residential streets), a bridge across the motorway then you're on the common

Higher park farm in Chobham does diy & part but had a waiting list for diy. It was one of the cheapest that I found for part. They've got 2 huge schools (indoors & out) but the place is a bit more run down than when I used to know it in the old days - still quite serviceable though but depends on what you like! About 15 mins ride to the common on quiet roads.

There was a nice little yard tucked away in the middle of Horsell common too owned by a keen dressage rider but they did have winter turnout restricted to a couple of hours a day and suplemented with time on the horse walker. Theirs was 5 day part livery (Mon-Fri) and not too badly priced but the name escapes me at the moment. No road work to get to the hacking though and less than 10 stables on the yard. I really liked it but decided I wouldn't compromise on the turnout.

otherwise I'd recommend looking on the notice board at Countrywide in Lyne, I picked up a few phone numbers from there as well as Buttons, Chobham rider and Rokers tackshops. Lyne has quite a few yards tucked away so chatting to the staff in countrywide might turn up some more options for you as several of the staff keep horses.

Good luck in your search!

Thanks that's really helpful!

The top prices don't surprise me as we have £800 yards in our area too, but there doesn't seem to be much at the other end of the scale?! Mine is within M25 in S Herts and I pay £370pm part livery which includes everything except riding plus hay/haylage/straw just not feed. That's with off-road hacking and lit arena.

The one in Horsell common sounds promising, if you remember the name - my horse doesn't desperately need many hours of turnout as long as he has some each day, mostly he prefers his stable.

Hollybush only currently have part and full spaces. Also they said the boxes are 10x12 which is a bit small (my boy is full up 16.2).

I will try all the notice boards you mentioned, thank you. I'd be interested to hear where you ended up if you fancy pming :)

I have a yard in Chertsey beautiful boxes and grazing huge brick built stables small friendly yard the only downside we currently dont have an arena although this is something we are looking into, we have an area on grass which i use to ride and break school show horses and never had a problem i offer DIY, assisted , Part and tailor each package to suit the individual needs if you would like any more information please pop me an email sbrownshowhorses@hotmail.com :)

Thanks but the arena is one thing I can't compromise on, I work full time so need a lit arena, and to be honest given dressage is what we "do" we do need an arena I'm afraid. Shame as otherwise your yard sounds lovely!

Here is the 1 in Horsell, as far as I am aware, Jane had 1 livery space (in the last week or so anyway but may be gone now) http://bournemeadows.co.uk/

Try also
Larkenshaw Farm on Stonehill Road, Chobham
Willow Farm in Chobham
Victoria Farm, Brookwood
Little Owl stables, Halebourne Lane in Chobham

Also, try ******* too :)

Good luck with your search. Having left Chertsey nearly a year ago I can tell you it is a very very pricey area to be in.
Pannells I've heard is a lovely yard but there is a rather long waiting list.
Countrywide did have a few ads up and Chobham rider and Rokers always have a good selection of ads.
