Am looking for a livery yard in West Sussex ideally Worthing/Angmering/Findon/Patching and surrounding area but will go Washington/Storring or Arundel/Chichester for right place.
I can afford in terms of time to be picky as my horse is out on loan ATM and am just trying to find somewhere for when I have her back.

Criteria:
Must have good turnout with natural or man made shelter.
Not individual turnout unless you want it
Must have good high fencing - horse will jump over low electrics and no barbed wire sheep fencing.
Must have school
Must have some form of hacking but this area is pretty good anyway.

They are my MUSTs but ideally: would like to turnout my two horses together either just 2 of them or with a few others.
Would be nice to be at a biggish yard with lots of people to ride with.
Would like yard to do services so if I am unwell/on holiday then can pay for livery.
Would like to use my own farrier, instructor etc
Would be nice if the yard was competeion venue...

I don't want much do I?! :P

Any ideas welcomed. Not moving until early Jan
Thanks in advance!

If your looking for DIY livery, then there is Oldwick (they don't exercise the horse for you). Otherwise there is Henry Turrells yard (beautiful place, they don't exercise the horse for you though, but I would say its better than Oldwick) there is Lavant House Stables:

Two outdoor schools, all horses are permanently turned out though but they can exercise your horse for you. Its not DIY though, its either you keep your horse there and then only you and the instructors ride it, or you can put it in the riding school to be ridden. I used to go to Lavant so I can PM you more information if you want :D

I don't know how close this is to you, but Crofton Manor does DIY livery and that holds shows every weekend and you can definately bring your instructor, farrier etc there. Lovely facilities (big outdoor school, an indoor school, full set of jumps) and there ia hacking out and quick access to beaches, if i could do DIY, i would keep my horse there
:D

Oldwick doesn't have a website

Are you already local or moving to the Area?

Not clear whether you want 24hr turn-out? The yard I am on isn't taking anyone on at moment but is mostly individual turnout anyway although if you own both horses you could prob put in together. I think finding a field that has natural shelter is quite difficult locally as most seem to be on exposed areas of chalk grassland and man-made shelters are not provided in most cases. These are local.

Blakehurst Farm, Blakehurst Lane, on the edge of Angmering park. Small t/o groups but fencing might be an issue. Excellent access to hacking.

There is Hangleton Farm, Ferring - 4 schools, daily turn-out post and rail fencing, but no real shelter in most of the fields. Turned out in herds approx 8 -12 depending on size of field - can lead to injuries. Large, busy, services provided and lots of people to make friends with and share chores. Hacking OK but a little limited. Gets a bit of a bad press sometimes but my horse was happy there for 4 years and I had good times there. They have quite a lot of long-term clients. Great place to start if you are new to the area as you will meet loads of people and you won't feel alone.

Others around Patching are Patching Livery, The Fox stables (think it has barbed wire though in some fields which is why I didn't go there - that was 3 years ago). Lee Farm set in the most rural location. Long Furlong Farm - got quite a few friends there, friendly, great hacking, good school. The Lazy T-Bar - opposite Patching Livery (no school).

Then there is North Farm at Findon - quite exposed though. Rogers Farm also at Findon. Not sure if either have a school.

Storrington - have friends at both Chantry and Greyfriars who are happy there.

All have pros and cons but it really depends on personal taste and your horse's individual needs. I have friends at most of the yards mentioned. The main reason I moved from Hangleton because they didn't allow you to have your own instructor - had to use the one that used to manage the yard when it was a riding school, at the time I was really into dressage and wanted a dressage instructor. My horse is older now and competing much less so great hacking is a priority for me now.

Feel free to PM me if you want any more info.
