Hi all just wondering if anyone would be able to help me?? I work in racing on a pretraining/sales yard riding and breaking in racers. I also freelance teaching and riding show horses and other horses for clienrts.

Anyway im currently actively looking to give an ex racer a home. Im happy to do all re training myself etc and am not fussed on quirks or racing history.

As long as it is sound and a nice person!

I tried to buy a couple of horses at October sales but was outbid unfortunately on the ones i liked. I was particularly sad that I was unable to purchase one of my favourite horses that we had in to prep for sales, he was a superstar and great fun to ride but he was bought by an arab gentleman to go into training in saudi arabia.

I have tried a few trainers that I know however due to the economic climate many owners are shooting horses for insurance money as its more financially viable.

Anyway if anyone knows of any freebies that need a loving experienced home for a new lease of life could you let me know. many thanks!!

Shame - a friend of mine has just offered me one for free but I don't have the time or money to take it and apparently the owners want it to go to someone local (yorks) who won't sell it on as it's been a good horse for them! I know my friend will end up taking it but I think if the owners would maybe be a bit more flexible they could find it a fab home.

Heros is a wonderful charity. These beautiful horses should not be shot just because they don't like racing or are not developing fast enough to make money. Our partnership "sold" a lovely, well-bred 3yo filly to a new home last year (she hated racing and starting gates but had the sweetest temperament and attitude) she is now a "mum's hack" in a lovely small private yard and a happy, healthy girl.

Why not also try:

LadyT - the owners you know should feel secure if they and the new owners sign a BHA Non-Racing agreement. This legal document prevents the horse from being raced again or sold on by the new owners without consent. See the Darley website for fuller details and some lovely success stories.
