I need to sell my horse but cannot go through the timewasters / joy riders etc - so want to find a dealer who will buy my 5yo mare - she has no vices but is VERY green. no mallice in her at all and hacks in traffic, company, first, last etc but am selling her from the field as we've had the worst weather this winter and I am giving up horses. I just cannot do it anymore. Can anyone share any names / numbers - pm if you prefer

Thanks :)

16.3 / 17 green irish sport horse. Broken in and riding away.. will hack on her own & not phased by traffic - not done any schooling. In Gloucestershire / Wales / Bristol / Wiltshire area

This isn't much help but I can't think offhand of any dealers who just buy horses - sales livery is more common where they sell on your behalf (partly because they can't then be held responsible for as much if it goes wrong with a buyer. Probably also partly because of the expense of buying say 5 decent horses to sell, which is too much capital, and the risk of just one of them not passing a vet).

I've had a few from Lynne Robertson (Broadhill Stables) and she seems reputable and honest about the horses (I have also heard this from others and her online reviews are good). As a buyer it's where I would look, although with her business model she offers a trial to buyers at their yard, which may not suit your mare if she isn't in work (although they would probably get her working again).

Sorry Abacus, I'd have to warn WB to avoid Lynn Robertson. Myself and a friend each bought a horse from her around the same time and both had a bad experience. The horse I bought was the complete opposite of how she was described. That being said, I was able to send the mare back and got a refund, but I would have saved the horse the ordeal of moving and not bought her, had she been described honestly.
That is just my experience as a buyer, I can't comment from a seller's perspective.
I have also had a bad experience as a buyer with Lynn Robertson. Had a horse on trial [Content removed]. Eventually got my money back but it was a very stressful experience.

Chris Dyson is a good dealer who does sales livery. Sovereign horses and ponies on Facebook. Recently messaged him as considering selling one of mine and for his reputation thought it was very reasonable! He’s based in Warwickshire

If I was buying I’d look at Emily Chambers or Chris Dyson, for the type I’m after, no idea about selling.
Yes they are very good too but you have to be quick as his often sell unseen within hours of him posting adverts! He is true to his word so a lot of people will buy unseen from him assuming they are honest about their own abilities!

Some dealers will buy horses which they think have potential rather than sales livery - but the price they offer you will be market value less whatever they may have to 'spend' on getting the horse ready for sale and how long that could take. Maybe less than 50% of the normal value (i.e. trade prices). I guess you have to weigh up whether you can stomach that.

I’ve had anything but a good experience from Lynn and Broadhill stables. She has had my fair but poor comments removed from equine dealers. Many others have contacted me since to tell me of their bad experiences with her too.

Mitty Hardy Eventing? No experience of her but one of the ones I'm looking at to potentially buy through. She seems to have a good reputation. In Herefordshire I think. I imagine that would be sales livery though as suggested above.
I would second Mitty Hardy , she's near me and the first port of call for local and beyond.
Always hearing praise for her , never anything negative .
She does have a fantastic reputation.
Have a look at her Facebook page to see if its the sort of set-up that your looking for , Herefordshire way

Agreed she’s got an excellent reputation

Since my last post on this (and my prior experience which went back 3 years), things seem to have changed. A friend of mine got a horse on trial from her [Content removed]. Getting the money back was the biggest drama, it arrived in small amounts and took ages.

A friend of mine got a horse on trial from her - he wasn’t as well schooled as described and was grumpy to tack up and mount, I would think in pain somewhere (but a sweet boy otherwise). I've messaged you privately cold_feet hoping for some advice

My refund came back in instalments too extremely stressful experience.

If she's good to ride when in work might you do better to put her on sales livery, rather than sell from the field?
100%. I'd never buy from the field and I suspect there are few people that would unless they can take a financial hit, because that's the way people will look at it I'm afraid.

my original post on this thread was deleted as I said something that ‘a person’ objected to. Just wanted to bump up this thread as I have now had 5 (5!) individuals private message me to say they have also had problems getting a refund from Lynn Robertson when they have gone for her trial option. Some of whom had clearly joined the forum to respond after finding this thread on line. I eventually did get my money back, but the whole experience was extremely distressing. Just want to keep this thread current in case others are considering this business as an option.
