Where do you look? There doesn't seem to be much about at the moment, I've been looking on horsemart, horsequest etc but nothing really worth looking at locally. I've spoken to a couple of dealers but any suggestions would be great.

I'm looking for a med weight 14.3 to 15hh, 4-6 yrs gelding to hack/fun ride with. Home for life. Anyone fancy horse shopping for me?!

Although this website is good and bad there are some cracking horses on it. Some very sad and neglected animals which break your heart but there are some beautiful animals too.
My young girl was not advertised, I found the seller on here as he was selling another mare which was not what I was after, I got in touch and found Nell

Happy horse hunting

Try NFED, New Forest Equine Directory, not too many miles from Bristol. There are a couple of dealers on there who are always highly recommended.

I'm hating horse hunting, people are such liars!

It is tough and in truth I did not get a completely accurate story from her seller, gave her a DOB of about 6months earlier! Which at the time I was furious and upset about, I wanted something I could back sooner rather than later. However, here we are 4months later and I do love my girl, we have a long road ahead but she sold herself with her willing and brave nature at the time

I am sure you will find a good one :)

Brilliant thanks, that's another new one on me! Can you tell I haven't horse hunted for 20 years?! My last one sort of found me.

My friend has just put a deposit down on a lovely mare subject to vetting

We went to local shows and asked about and found her through word of mouth after looking at 4 horses that we were told about at the show
I also nearly sold mine a few weeks ago through someone asking at a dressage comp but wasn't the right home , none of them were advertised so it's maybe worth a look :)

We've only been looking a week and this horse seems perfect , fingers crossed she passes

Would this girly be an interesting type possibly....

ETC - Bugger....just read it a third time over and saw 'gelding'. Ignore me :)

Good luck with your search!!! If I hear of anything, I'll let you know. I'm Swindon/Marlborough way.

NFED is really good except I am too far away! And Preloved! Preloved seemed like the least likely one to have anything good but you seem to get a lot of new unseen ones every day so I am considering actually paying the £5 to contact sellers (although I usually copy the key details e.g location or tagline into google and can often find them somewhere else that is free to contact) Horse and hound is actually pretty good but not as many to choose from.

Facebook groups are good for my area as at least the local dealers post their links on there. I just typed 'bristol horse' and 'bristol riding' and it seems to have a few you can join, then you can put a wanted post on as well :-)

Also because I like Welsh Ds there is a welshcobs website http://www.welshcob.co.uk/ that has a list of like every breeder in the UK, so may be of interest to you for the size range and I have found several who are downsizing stock at the mo with good prices, but I only want big tall ones so bit limiting :-)

All the ones I liked the look of seem to be in the south west ;-)

Thanks guys, some really helpful suggestions.

Your mare is gorgeous Christmassparkles and is very much the type I'm looking for. Wouldn't want anything heavier though.

Thanks will have a look now. That one in the link looks great apart from the not good in the stable bit! That's really important to me, that they enjoy being titivated and dawned over! Or at least pretend to!!

Have you tried the local tack shops and agricultural places? They quite often have that type advertised, also pc website is great for the sort of size you are after.

Sorry OP- got distracted there. Some of these websites may have been mentioned or you know about already, but off the top of my head:

Horsemart
Horsequest
Adhorse
Coloured Contacts
Preloved
NFED
Horse & Hound
Dragon Driving

If you use FB, there are lots of horse for sale groups on there too.

Magicmelon - there really aren't that many decent ones! I drove 2.5 hours to north Devon yesterday and put a deposit on a horse only to be told when I got home that she'd forgotten to tell me he has tied up! Another one bites the dust :(

Gutted, he was perfect (well almost)!

I have tried a couple at cattybrook horses. Helen there is lovely but unfortunately neither I have tried were suitable.

Haha ;) :p Thankyou for the lovely comments. She is a lovely girly bless her, still got a bit of growing to do! And weight to lose now she's out on the grazing lol :)
