Looking for info about my 1997 roan Carnaval Drum mare

Hi all,
I know this is probably like searching for a needle in a haystack, but I thought it was worth a try.

I live in Canada and in 2003 I bought a mare who had been imported from England the previous fall (2002).

She's such a super horse, I'd love to know more about her. Ideally, I've love to know where she came from and who bred her, but I'd settle for any information.

What I know about her is this:
- born in 1997
- by Carnaval Drum
- She's bay roan with no white marks
- she's 16.2hh
- She was known as Carnaval Cream (Fanny)
- Didn't really show

Here's a couple of photos of her circa 2004-2005:

I've checked with NED, AES, KWPN and they don't have any record of her. I borrowed two chip scanners my vet had and they didn't pick up a chip.

If you know anything about "Polly", I'd love to know!

Sorry no help at all, but I have a soft spot a mile wide for roans and she is lovely!!

Thanks for the help, anything is great to know.

I am hoping her unique colour might help me find out something! It seems as though there are lots of Caranval Drums around, but probably not that many who are roan!

Ah right no joy there then, you could try putting something on the NFED, Carnival drum has been local here all his life and this is the local web rag for the area and a lot of people use it, should be free to post on there another long shot but you never know!

Someone might remember breeding her, it's unlikely they bothered to register in 1997 as there were at that time no regulations and microchip is unlikely too!

Unfortunately She was exported prior to every horse in the UK requiring any form of passport ID and would not have needed a microchip, do you know where she was imported from in England? Did she have any competition record, is that why she was imported? If so then you could contact the British Show Jumping Association for a competition record, I am assuming that SJ is her forte?

As for registering, it's like that here. We still don't have any kind of national horse ID/tracebility program.

I don't know where exactly she was imported from, but I know it was an SJ yard. I bought her from my trainer who bought and imported her. I was told she hadn't really shown (she was pretty green), just been to some schooling-type shows (don't know what they're called there).

The barn I rode at imported quite a few horses from the UK, even green ones. The owner used to have a sales yard there and still had quite a few connections. They found they could get better quality for the money than going elsewhere in Europe.

I searched BSJA's online registry, but I'll try contacting them directly to see if I can find out anything.

Yes probably did local show circuit which is known as unaffiliated show's over here so there would only have been local records if any and any results at that level aren't recorded on the BSJA, but worth a shot just in case.

Good luck, let me know if you get anything and I can probably do some more, will have an ask round for you locally, I still keep in touch with some of the local SJ circuit, though I've gone over to Western horses and have ironically imported from Canada!!!
 
There is a Carnival Cream on NED. No breeding details but female and BSJA regitered so perhaps contacting BSJA to see who registered her might be worth a shot.

I checked the BSJA registry and it's her! I never thought to search "Carnival", I just figured it was "Carnaval".

Still looking for more info about her breeding, but I've contacted BSJA to see if they can help at all.

Best of luck.

I've checked the British Horse Database books but the last one was printed in 2000 so a bit early for your girl.
There are quite a few of his offspring in there, some are named Carnaval ..... and some Carnival.....
Sporthorse Data have got a few listed too.
 
Mine was bred just outside Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the other, her half sister I cheated and imported the semen, a bit cheaper!!

Nice to see you have at least found a record of your girl somewhere! Might get some more soon hopefully.
 
Wow! We live in Western Manitoba, not too far away from Saskatoon (Canadian distance-wise). Hope you're enjoying your Canadian horses!

I worked on a farm/ranch near Bassano in Alberta for nearly a year a long while ago.
We had several horses Quarter Horses, Paint and an Appaloosa. I learnt to lasso and team rope the cattle and also had a chance to ride in a rodeo parade carrying my country's flag. I had a great time and would like to take my husband and son there some time in future.
 
Violet, what a neat experience! I'm glad we made such a great impression!

I love watching those great ranch horses work, so cool.

On a more general note, I have nothing new to report. But got a few answers.

I contacted BSJA and they didn't have any additional information about her that wasn't on the competition report. Also contacted AES and KWPN and they had no record of a Carnival Cream.

I also contacted Pembers Hill earlier in the week but still haven't heard anything back. I asked if they could reply even if they couldn't help me.

I have tried emailing them a couple of times before (using the contact email address on their site) but never heard anything back. I am wondering if my email is getting filtered out as spam or something since I'm sending from a clearly international address (my address ends in ".ca").

Everyone seems to say they are good to deal with so I'm wondering if this is what's happening. Any thoughts?

Small world isn't it, yes my Canadians are the best! Would go and buy more if I had the money, exchange rate is not so good these days!!

PM me your email and I will drop it off for you as they are only up the road (English distances! (about a mile)) and I have my semen in store there! I need to make some arrangements for breeding this year I have some semen from a very exciting young American ranch horse sire to use so I can quiz them for you!!
