Hi,

I have recently got my seat back after quite a few years away from riding. I've been at a riding school now for 5 months, this has been good to get me back used to riding again and it has made my legs strong again however, I am finding it increasingly difficult to further my ability and I also feel this is not the best way to learn, a lot of the horses simply follow each other around the manège and I'm not really being challenged enough. What I am looking for is someone who offers more one 2 one tuition or small groups but also someone who has a suitable horse I can ride. My aims in the future are to be able to look to buy something suitable to go hunting again (poss part thoroughbred) and to possibly do the odd competition on. At the present time with the tuition I am receiving, that is not going to be achievable.

Hope somebody has some advice or guidance :)

many thanks

Charlotte

Try another riding school.

I did what you are doing - had lessons for about a year. Then did a part loan (he was on DIY livery so did all the jobs too). Then got my own. I had ridden, loaned, competed and worked at a RS as a teenager, but stopped when I went to uni.

The riding school I went to to get back into riding had a wide range of horses to suit novices and experienced riders. They had horses that had competed at dressage to a reasonable level (who would work in an outline when ridden correctly), and an ex point to pointer. I had flatwork and jumping lessons in a group of other adults who all wanted to progress.

What area are you in?

riding schools should be able to provide this.
Speak to them about your aims.
Have one to one lessons on a suitable horse.
You may need to go to a more "up market" yard. If you know what's mean.

Oh completely forgot today where I'm based..I'm in central manchester currently travel just outside to the riding school. Thanks you for your responses. How would I go about finding a part loan or share? Or finding a more professional instructor with more forward horses?

'Horse for sale' websites have a section for loans/shares. I'll PM you the name of the riding school I went to as I was in Stockport. Might be too far for you though.
