Im looking to get my boy insured for vet fees and public liability. I dont want loss of use, lorry tack etc etc. Does anyone else have this sort of insurance and know of a cheapish one? NFU quote with a 5 star passed vetting cert was £29!!

petplan is good they are a lil bit expensive but fantastic

good luk xx

Cheap is not nessesarily saving you money and aggrovation when it comes to insurance as the cheap ones don't pay out when you need them to. In fact some vet practices have had such bad experiences of some insurers that the owners have to pay up and then try to get it back from the insurers.

So you have been warned.

I have had claims with NFU and they have been fantastic about paying - only issue I have with them is if you have several horses they have to be all on the same insurance. I have all of our insured for third party and death but wanted to extend to vets bills on my two youngsters. They wouldn't do it because they said I was being selective and might be doing it because they might have problems. Yes I was being selective they are worth individually more than all the others added together!

My friends horse was insured with Petplan, no exclusions, he was having issues and the vet wanted to send him for a bone scan and they said they'd only pay IF it found something wrong with him!!! He didn't have it, they couldn't take the risk, so he's now a field ornament!

I usually find Petplan more expensive than NFU

Hi, NFU are very good we use them but I would check the quote from them it seems a bit cheap, make sure it will cover all vet bills.

oh dear thats not good! I think NFU dont pay MRI at all though? This is why I have made my own little fund as well for anything that the insurance may reject

It may have just been for that particular case, it was a complicated one. Still shocked me though. Who'd agree to that? Seemed ridiculous!

You have to get pre auth for MRI with MFU, and yes I think it's 50%. I don't think they're the only insurance company that has that policy though?

My mare got bone scanned last week with NFU and were happy to pay regardless of the results and sendiing her up to Edinburgh. Have been really good paying the bills for her arthritis over the last 9 months. Over £4k at the moment.

SEIB (South Essex Insurance Bureau) are FAB - can't recommend them highly enough. Paid up for MRI scan without a hitch. Some insurers don't cover at all and some will only pay half. We never thought we'd need anything like an MRI but as it has just cost over a grand we are VERY glad they cover it. They were also BRILLIANT over all the other scans he had last year (over £700). Bet they are sick of the sight of us.....

e&l i don't think are that good my frien was with them and messed her around with her money and the payments with her sarcoids not a good reputaion.

but is it horse insurance.com

I use Scottish equestrian Insurance services, and they r really good and cheap, was very suprised ho must it cost to insure my 2 for vet fees, public liabilty and other things, i was very picky with what i did and didnt want and found them to be cheaper than Pet plan.

hi,

Was going to suggest you look at SEIB. Heard good things about them so really pleased someone here found them very good too.

I am in the process of changing over to SEIB from NFU because my insurance went up £60 this year and they weren't very helpful explaining why. However I did claim for about £200 from them a few years back and they were great.

I agree Petplan are also very good., although the most expensive for me.

E&L don't use another name as far as I know, they are just E&L.

I am with Amtrust Equine for one horse and Equestrian Direct (or whatever they are called now) for the other. Amtrust are great, even my vet recommends them, but ED have been a nightmare since the end of last year. I'm trying to claim with ED now and you wouldn't believe the forms I have to fill in (new underwriter or something like that)...you'd think I was applying to join MI5 not make a claim for horse insurance
