Hello, this may seem like a very difficult question/ query to fulfil but a friend recommended the use of the website and the wonderful people on it. I have been in a psychiatric hospital for severe depression for about two years now and as a motivation to get out I want to reserve a stable at a livery yard in Frome where I will be living when I leave the hospital. Can anybody who owns a yard or knows anybody in Frome with yards recommend somewhere that would take monthly payment up to £250 a month to reserve a stable at their yard.
I have had many horses in the past and I am a very experienced teenager with horses, but my little boy was sold (Probably illegally as all the papers were in my name not his) by my father when I entered hospital unknown to me until I found his advert on freeads :(
The yard doesn't have to be fancy or even have an arena just a field with water, electric and shelter would do just fine. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I wish you a good day :)

Again no contacts in the area but want to wish you well. Have you thought about getting a loan for a while, this could give you a positive goal , get you used to the horsey set in the area and give you a basic group of social friends. Please also don't share too much about your personal life as their are som e pretty horrid folk on some horse yards, and they live to have one up manship over others. Equally their are some amazing friendly helpful folk in yards but take your time in finding out who. To trust and take into your confidence and your money !. Please also do t blame your dad, he probably thought he was doing the right thing at the time. GW x

I'm in the area. There are yards with spaces around here, I don't think you'll need to reserve a stable. A lot of yards are DIY, some offer services, some don't so you need a friendly freelance groom if you're not around - there are a lot in the area.

There are local groups on Facebook where livery is advertised - Shepton Equine and Wiltshire Horse Riders are the best. Mole Valley advertises yards on their boards - there's an advert there this weekend for a yard in Mells that looks good, I think it may be a new owner now from doing some digging, the old YO caused some issues for some friends of mine who were there - borrowing her trailer and breaking it, didn't tell her of the break and her horse was injured when next travelling.

Places to avoid would be a yard in Chapmanslade where, unless the YO has changed a lot, turnout is not allowed if rain is forecast so not ideal, she also used to burst into tears regularly because she just wanted people to be happy there and due to her turnout rules we weren't - she also insists that you brush the yard up of all the twigs and leaves that fall from the trees - I don't have a problem with clearing up mess I make but when I was working 7 days a week I didn't really have much enthusiasm for clearing bits of tree up. There's Waterslade Stables in Rudge - I'd avoid this for your sanity as the YO can be difficult - she's renowned in the area. I'd avoid Bangles Farm in Chantry too, everyone I know - me included - who's been there has left in a hurry as the YO knows nothing but insists on interfering with your horses / their care in a dangerous and thoughtless manner.

Frome has a yard practically in town called Tangiers - just on the edge of town but inside the dual carriageway so hacking is mostly around the town / housing estates and not great and then there are yards in Corsley, Chapmanslade, Friggle Street and Longleat - all give you access to Longleat Forest for hacking and have more or less facilities depending on which yard it is - all have a school, some are lit, some not. There's a part livery/full livery yard nearby - Luckington Equestrian, plus some other DIY yards around Mells / Babington / Kilmersdon - these have good bridleway hacking. There's the yard I'm on near Nunney, I think we have 1 space currently - it's a farm but we're allowed to ride all over the farm so loads of off road hacking, people are friendly and non judgemental but it's not the tidiest place. There's livery at Warminster Saddle Club on 2 separate yards and Downlands Equestrian the other side of Warminster from Frome - but both have good facilities and nice hacking and run competitions / riding club events / clinics regularly. There's Cowards Farm in Rudge as well - they have a school, a small xc course, ok hacking, and you can ride around some fields on site. There's a yard just down the road from Cowards too, owned by a guy called Eddie and it's nice and small and well maintained. There's Barrack Livery Yard in Coulston - the other side of Westbury - so Salisbury Plain hacking - I've only seen this from the website and a friend's report after an open day - apparently it's lovely. Then there are yards around Witham Friary and North Brewham as well - country lane hacking, and some forest tracks with long rides out to Alfred Tower. There's Green Sands over Warminster/Longleat/East Crockerton way - hacking around Longleat there too and there's a yard just down the road from Green Sands who's name escapes me - they only take geldings on livery and I have 2 mares so I think that's why I can't remember what they're called.

Back to Frome there's also Brookover at Orchardleigh - the old owner who used to run the riding school isn't there anymore - she's now in the actual house having got married to the owner recently - the yard is still open, a friend moved there from the yard I'm on a few months ago and really likes it. Hacking could be problematic if your horse didn't like traffic.

Good luck finding somewhere to suit, there's a lot to look around.

Also from the area. ZandP seems to have covered most things. I'm on a yard in Feltham / Friggle street and I believe we have a vacancy. There is another yard very local who I think has a vacancy.
I heard the same about Waterslade.
Didn't know that Brookover had changed owners. I used to livery there, it was ok but as ZandP said hacking was limited to riding round the farm which got repetitive very quickly.
Definitely look at the Mole Valley notice board and the Shepton Equine and Wiltshire Horse Riders FB pages.

Am not in the area so cannot help you, but just wanted to wish you well; so very sorry your horse was sold without your knowledge or consent - when I managed to trace one of the previous owners of my old boy a few years ago now, he had apparently been with a girl and the mother had sold him on and not told her it was happening or where he had gone! He'd been about 5 - 8yrs old when she'd had him. She saw a post I'd put up about him on his 20th birthday, and got in touch! After all those years! It was lovely to put her in touch with her horse again; sadly he was PTS not long after that but at least she did get to know he was OK.

Hoping and praying that you might find your horse again, sometime, somewhere. A starter might be "Trace My Horse UK" on Facebook. So sorry this has happened to you, yes your dad probably thought he was doing the right thing but I know of a similar situation where the horse hasn't been sold, it has been put on loan. Much better.
