I am looking for DIY livery near Exeter ideally near Haldon Forest as we have moved to Dunchideock but could be as far down as Bovey Tracy/Chudleigh. I have 2 geldings and would need use of an arena. Do you know of any nice ones?
Thanks

Hyperion is actually on Haldon and has reasonable facilities, although have heard their turnout is an issue as a lot of horses and not a lot of grazing, but they offer various types of livery and prices aren't too out the way considering the hacking etc. They have a website if you google hyperion stud I think it is.

Know of few others around your area you live and within couple miles of Haldon, but none of them have schools or much in the way of facilities,so am guessing would not be any good??

theres is a yard in chudleigh that has indoor stables and a good school.. can never remember the name of it.. devonlass it was that place i went to see think u went there too?

theres also haldon riding stables i think they do livery.

oaklands in exeter do various types of livery but again its also a ridign school .

Thanks for the reply. It would ideally need access to an arena if possible.
Hyperion seems to only do part or full but i may try them. Any other suggestions would be great.

if you google willhayes horse transport.. they do livery not sure if they do diy. they dont have a school but there is one just up the road. and they very near to haldon

Hi i know Willhayes but doesnt do diy. I have my horses on their own at mo and their getting too attached so really need to be on a livery yard with other horses around

and a couple more numbers i came across..

Hacking, riding & livery centre with big indoor arena. Eastlake Riding Stables ... 1 Stokelake Farm Cotts, Chudleigh. 01626 852096. Scenic off-road hacking, all standards ... Christow, Nr Exeter. 01647 253026.

Address is Hennock though? There's always Wendy Gibsons yard, Lower Haldon, at Kennford. The yard I was at in Chudleigh shot down a few years ago, the riding school even longer. I have friends at Dunley, which is at Bovey Tracey, not sure what's happening there though, sold or for sale?

There's Finlake Riding School, and I see the girl at the Hennock yard is riding a horse with the burgundy Finlake saddlecloth so presumably she worked there at some point.

Just outside of Chudleigh, on a back road to Trusham, is this place http://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/company/horse-bedding-17618980.html - I believe Tom is now doing DIY livery from here, they used to have a school but it was pretty basic, sand base.

I do think that from where you will be living, the yards I PM'd you are closer with better hacking though!

jhoward, the first one is Finlake, I think that's Jackies actual home address there? The second one I don't know at all, I do know of a livery yard in Christow, wouldn't have thought there was any instruction there though - they do have a school. There is also a livery yard in Bridford village, year round turnout and small but decent outdoor school, good hacking, nice people!

I am amazed by the fact you actually thought there was a small chance I would remember that lol
I didn't even remember it was in Chudleigh.............................*insert sheepish looking embarrassed smilie here*

Hyperion also do assisited DIY (unless that's what you mean by part??),which can work out quite reasonable as I remember, and saves you having to go up twice a day when roads are bad etc, unless they have stopped doing this?? I would give them a call as from what I've heard they have all sorts of liveries up there (they also do grass livery in the summer although they don't advertsie the fact),and can be quite flexible.

There are a couple of bigger yards that have good facilities but are down Newton Abbot way,is that too far out for you??

ETA: you are right willhayes don't do DIY,but they do assissted grass livery if that any good?? Lovely lady who owns willhayes (she's my barefoot trimmer!!),and am sure if you ask her she would tell you if there are any other places near where you live, sure she also uses a school nearby to her as well so could give you details of that.
I actually know of a farmer who used to do livery in dunchideock barton, but no school AFAIK,and not certain he still offers it,but maybe worth a shot, will PM if you want to know more.
There are a couple of places around Ide which isn't too far from you,or is that no good as is getting further out from Haldon?? Jhoward will know more about them than me,and if they are still going or available.
Really think Hyperion sounds like your best bet though if can find a livery package to suit and they have spaces.

im sure it was u.. 2 stables and a small paddock where we had to put muck into a bag for them to remove.. then on further askings they had a small yard a bit further down ... it was up a dead end lane and there was a garage..

Is Hyperion a riding school?is it a nice yard?Just trying to avoid large bitchy yards if possible as i tend to keep myself to myself (i am friendly tho lol)

Hi spot the risk
Is the one in Bridford laployd barton? How far is christow from Dunchideock?is it closer than Bridford?

christow is only just over a mile away from bridford.

your areas are ide, clapham .. oh that reminds me.. theres also a place in shillingford st george that has a school..

trusham cristow.. LOADS of palces and all are fairly horsie..

are you in the area now? proberely worth a drive around all the horsie tack shops???

Yeh it was me mate,I'm just amazed you thought I would remember the name, you know how forgetful and vague I am at the best of times lol
Like I said I would have struggled to remember it was Chudleigh even, never mind the name!! Sorry mate but you should know how hopeless and un-reliable I am by now lol

Hyperion is a fair sized and busy yard (not a riding school AFAIK,more a stud, production and livery yard),BUT the few people I know who have been there get on fine, and they are decent down to earth types IYKWIM,I know one lady who has her own yard but goes up to Hyperion every summer just for some decent hacking and facilities, she really enjoys her time there, and she is much like yourself just likes to keep herself to herself and do her own thing, and she has never mentioned any problems. Can only speak of what I know obviously, but have honestly never heard anything bad about the place, apart from the limited turnout situation over winter.

Look at their website gives all the details, they also have onsite instructors if I remember rightly??

Nicky at Rollestone knows everyone, so hopefully she'll be there when you pop in! I know exactly what's being advertised on our board at the moment, and there's nothing to suit you - try Mole Valley too though.

also tuckers in ashburton and lenoard coombes newton abbot.. was there recently and all had lots of adverts up for livery.

Just a thought, but as I am very local to Nicky so know her own yard and location well etc,DO remember to tell her you have to have a school on site or nearby,as I happen to know of a couple of small yards near to her (and me obviously lol) that she might well mention,BUT they don't have any facilites and there are none nearby either (well apart from Nicky's own lol,but she won't rent that out due to insurance sadly),so worth making it clear to her exactly what you are looking for so she doesn't give you loads of suggestions that are not suitable.

Mole valley is a good idea, have often seen ads for livery there, and Leonard Coombes in Newton Abbot if you are considering that direction and area.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Keep them coming!as most places full.
I will try Hyperion today, What do you mean by limited turnout in the winter and do you know if its seperate turnout?Just that i would like my 2 with a least one other or seperated if pos as my older one clings to my younger gelding, as i pain to be left when i hack or compete!

The areas i really want to be around are clapham, Doddiscomleigh, ashcombe, trusham, idestone. May dive over Bridford/Christow way today and see how far it really is.

Thanks everyone. I think i have found a yard near me with use of a school. There are a couple more spaces if anyone needs livery pm me.
